I Remember When...

It was a beautiful, sunny day at the southern tip of Louisiana. A warm, summer breeze was blowing across the beach as 37-year-old, Cody Martin pulled the last few burgers off of the grill. His wife, Bailey was working on her tan in a fold-out chair while their 16-year-old twin sons, Jordan and Matthew, chased each other through the black sand.

"Burgers are done!" Cody called out to his sons. He watched as they chased each other toward him, their blonde hair blowing in the wind. He couldn't help, but think how much they reminded him of himself and his own twin brother at that age.

As his family sat down to eat their burgers and potato chips, Cody gazed out across the Gulf of Mexico into the horizon. It was late evening and the sun was beginning to set. The sky was a wonderful combination of orange, blue, purple, pink, and red. The ocean was as black as night.

"Boys," Cody said.

"Yeah, dad?" the twins said in unison.

"I remember, when I was your age, when the Gulf of Mexico was full of nothing except water." Cody explained.

"You mean... instead of oil?" Jordan asked.

"No oil. Just water." Cody answered, smiling as he met his wife's eyes. She too remembered those simpler times.

Jordan and Matthew looked at each other, their mouths hanging open in shock. As if their father had just told them you used to have to buy music on skinny, little pieces of wound up tape instead of downloading it directly to your brain implants or that television had once been shown only in black and white and wasn't 4D.

The End.
