I do not own InuYasha or any of the characters created by Rumiko Takahashi

All Is Right

The evening was growing late. Dinner was over, and Kagome had put her sewing away and pulled out the futon, but instead of laying down quite yet, she and InuYasha sat in front of the fire pit, not saying anything, just watching the flames. She sat between his legs, her back to his chest and her head nestled under his chin, his arms wrapped around her.

The wood in the fire pit crackled and popped, cascading a stream of sparks upwards. InuYasha considered stirring the wood, but really didn't want to disturb his wife, or for that matter, shift his comfortable position. The quiet blanketing them was peaceful and relaxed, even though outside, the wind was strong, and he could hear it blowing through the trees.

He looked down at her as she lay nestled in his arms. Light from the fire touched her with warm light like honey moving across the planes of her face and warming her hair. Lifting up one of his hands, he touched the light on her hair and traced its trail with a claw-tipped finger until it until it disappeared into the shadows.

Kagome looked up from where she had nestled into her husband's shoulder, and looked up at him with sleepy, blue-gray eyes. Her eyes looked up at him questioningly, but seeing the look of contentment on his face, she gave him a small, but happy smile

"Sleepy?" he asked, letting his fingers drift to the curve of her cheek.

"Maybe," she replied, then yawned. "You make a good pillow."

He brushed his lips across her forehead. "We could go lay down, you know."

"Don't wanna move," she said, nestling in against his chest. She took his hand, and laced her fingers in his, resting their joined hands against her heart.

"Me, neither," he replied.

It only took a few minutes, but as he watched, she drifted fully into sleep. Unwilling to move her and end the moment, he held her for a long time afterwards and watched the fire burn low, knowing that as long as she was there, all was right in his world.
