He watches the sunset, nursing an ice cold beer, and wonders where his boys are tonight, what they're doing. He wonders if Sam is happy, if he's made friends yet, carved out that new life he's been longing for so desperately.

His fingers hover over his cell phone as he tries to decide whether to call or not. He knows Dean's been keeping an eye on his little brother but he'd only call if something urgent came up.

John doesn't want to hear about any crises though. He just wants to hear that Sam is settled and content.

And safe.
