This story if over double the length of my last one, woot! Still short, though...

Disclaimer: If I owned Kamui and Subaru, I'd be married to both of them.

Most people think Kamui is possessive of Subaru. That his fierce and violent reactions to any threat towards Subaru's safety show he puts protecting his brother from others above all else. To a certain extent, this is true, but those people didn't see Kamui when he was below, watching the water. They didn't see the pain in his eyes while he waited. That pain was not for Subaru, but for himself.

The best adjective to describe Kamui would not be possessive. It would be needy.

Kamui needed Subaru. He needed to insure Subaru's safety as much for himself as for his twin. He needed to know that Subaru would be there, would always be there, by his side.

In Tokyo, he wasn't. In Tokyo, Kamui was alone, alone, alone. And he hated every moment.

After three years of suffering, Subaru was finally returned to him. He wanted to leave with him that very moment, to escape this world. But Subaru wanted to stay and make sure the other travelers were going to be alright. He was more compassionate than his twin.

Kamui waited impatiently for Subaru to decide they could leave, and they crossed to another dimension the moment he did.

The twins arrived in a world with misty air and forests of dark trees. Their vampire eyes immediately adjusted to the dim lighting, and they took in their surroundings.

They were alone...and couldn't sense anyone for miles.

Subaru laced his fingers through Kamui's. "I'm sorry."

"For what?" Kamui sighed as Subaru brought his hand up and kissed along the knuckles.

Green eyes shone in a thin bean of moonlight that filtered through the trees. "For making you wait."

Kamui remained silent as he looked into those eyes, bringing both his hands to his brother's face to outline his features with the pads of his fingers. Each ridge and line and dip were so familiar to him, even after all this time. A smile ghosted across his face. He leaned in closer until he could feel Subaru's breath against his mouth.

"Just don't make me wait any longer."

Subaru snaked out his tongue to playfully lick Kamui.

"Deal."

Lips met slowly, savoring every sensation. Subaru's hands cupped Kamui's face, then threaded through his hair, always moving, stroking and petting.

Kamui welcomed each touch almost desperately. "I love you," he whispered between kisses. "Don't ever leave me."

Subaru stopped to look into Kamui's lavender eyes, concerned. "I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what it was like for you. At least I was asleep; I couldn't feel the pain of missing you. But you…" He left off that thought and instead kissed Kamui firmly. "I promise. I'll never leave you."

Smiling sadly, Kamui ducked his head. "You can't promise that. We could be torn apart again."

Subaru lifted Kamui's chin up and spoke resolutely. "If it is in my power, I will let no force, no person, no destiny come between us. That I can promise."

Kamui looked up, tears shining in his eyes. "Thank you."

There was only a moment's pause before Subaru fell on Kamui, covering his face with kisses, hands once again caressing his twin's body. Kamui could hardly breathe under the weight of Subaru's affection, but he had no need to.

Such things as air, water, blood…what did they matter when it came to supporting life? How could they possibly compare to Subaru? Because Kamui knew that without Subaru, he would die. Surely, he would die. His life could not possibly continue if he ever lost his twin, and, indeed, what importance could life have if Subaru were not in it? None at all.

That is how much Kamui needs Subaru.

More than life.
