OK, I wrote this in English when I was suppose to be working, oh well. This is based off a quote I read on the back of a note book in German. Well, I finished it and gave it to my friend to read because I thought it was too fluffy, even for me. She said if I didn't post it she wouldn't speak to me. Oh well. ON WITH THE STORY!!!

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters…

Who mattered in Sophie's life? Well, of course, there was Markl, he was like a son to her, and at the rate she and Howl were going, she wouldn't have one of her own until she was an old crone again. And then there was Calcifer, he heated the castle, and, more importantly, he was her first real friend, so wouldn't that secured him a place on the list of people who mattered? And surely her sister and mother, well, maybe not Honey, but definitely Lettie. And then there was Howl, well, she didn't even want to begin to start on him…

Who never did…

Jacob Thomson. He didn't matter. Her first crush (and boy did he know it) and last deliberate attempt at love. She had worked so hard at making herself pretty for him by wearing different clothes, trying on her mother's make-up, and even cutting her hair in a most ridiculous fashion. All for his attention. Finally, he began to return his affections: first with a smile in her direction, then talking to her and such. Then, a few weeks later, he and her best friend Amanda ran away, never to be seen again. Neither of them mattered.

Who won't anymore…

Markl really was a sweet boy, and Calcifer the kindest fire demon but soon they wouldn't matter either. Markl was after all only Howl's apprentice, so one day, after he was done with his training (which was thankfully years away) he would leave. Leave his teacher, leave the castle, and leave Sophie. And Calcifer? Well, Calcifer was a fire demon, a free fire demon, and would no doubt grow bored with the tiring, meticulous day-to-day activities of house life one day and leave her as well. No, Sophie needed someone who would always be there. Always protect her…always…

Who always will…

This had Sophie really stumped. "Who always will." Who could possibly always be there? Life was constantly changing. Why even after just 6 months in the castle she had lost practically lost all communication with her family. And, as she painfully discovered, Markl and Calcifer would soon follow suit. Everything, everything, changed! Except, well… She scolded herself for not seeing it sooner. Who promised her everything he had? Who promised (and did at the near cost of his own life) to keep her safe no matter what? Who was the very reason she stayed in this blasted castle flying high above Ingary?

"Howl," Sophie whispered, smiling.

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore, and who always will. So don't worry about people in your past there is a reason they didn't make it to your future.

Wow. I still say it was too fluffy. I came this close to not posting it *(holds up finger and thumb close together)* OH well, REVIEW MY LOVELIES!!!
