A Kiss on the Head
"I love you"
I've told you that
as you grew up.
Your big, blue childish eyes,
held a curiosity
only a young one could muster.
But you smiled up at me,
and I swept you into a hug,
said goodnight,
and gave you a kiss on the head.
"I love you"
I repeated to you
before I had to leave.
We would be a thousand miles apart,
but I would always come back.
But tears ran down your small face,
and you clung to my leg.
Begging me, "Please don't go!"
But you knew I had to, and I knelt down
and gave you a kiss on the head.
"I love you"
I thought before hanging up the phone.
You were all grown up now,
but you were still my little one.
You didn't want me to say it,
because "brothers" don't say it.
I love you.
And how I wished
once more like I used to, that
I could give you a kiss on the head.
"I love you"
I would whisper
as I walked out the door
after visiting you years afterward.
You had grown bigger than me.
Not just in stature, but in pride.
You wanted freedom from me,
And you got it.
It depresses me to think,
That I still wish that
I could give you a kiss on the head.
"I love you"
I rehearsed.
Waiting for the day that we could talk again
like civilized gentlemen.
Without quarreling or mocking,
or getting into a fist-fight when you insult my cooking.
When that day comes
I hope you know that I can accept you,
and welcome you with open arms,
and give you a kiss on the head.
I hope you guys liked! I wrote this poem for English class~! Yeah! ^^ I'm really proud of this, and if you couldn't tell, it's from England's point of view watching America grow up.
I must be good at writing sad/adorable pieces lately... or something... ;w;
