Be a Cop

I knew from the day I was born I was 100% cop. I felt it from the tips of my toes to the top of my head.

My first assignment was easy: Guard a shipment of goods to the local market place. The ride was rough sitting in the back but that didn't matter. I shook my head knowing the importance of this mission.

The next assignment was trickier. A lot of pedestrian traffic going in and out of the market places. Most of the time I had to sit real still but other times I felt like I was being manhandled. Sometimes I felt like I was being toyed with. That was the longest 7 months of my career.

Then there was the Big Day. I'll never forget it. I was in the coffee break room when I learned of my next assignment. I looked at the man as he pretended to be "Bond, James Bond" with imaginary guns drawn from his hips. All the other cops laughed but I saw the seriousness behind those eyes of his. It was going to be a dangerous job. The mission seemed forthright and I still don't know why I was assigned to do the job. He was dangerous all by himself. Then when I met his partner, I questioned my assignment even more. Her beauty was only outshone by her brilliance. She was dangerous too and maybe even more dangerous than he was. I looked at them, nodding in thanks that they were on the good side of the law. It was a simple escort job back to the states for a job well done by the pair.

The worst thing happened next: Desk Duty! Me on desk duty! Sure, I got to see a lot between the two partners. The bickering and the staring into each other's eyes but most importantly was the way they diligently worked and solved the cases.

Then there was That Day! He came in by himself pacing around the room. I don't know what made him stop pacing and look me right in the eyes and asked, "What am I going to do? I'm in love with my partner." He started pacing again this time squeezing a stress ball that was on the desk next to me. He was in bad shape when he turned to me, got in my face, slammed the stress ball next to me and asked, "Do I tell her?" I just sat there wide eyed and just nodded. I saw the courageous gleam in his eye as my advice took hold of him. He turned and ran out of the building. He was on his own mission then.

I saw them again with her sitting on his lap in his chair. It was late at night with no one else around. They were kissing and hugging like crazy when the whole room was turned black. I didn't see anything until two hours later when the bra was finally removed from my head.

Yes, it's a tough job being a Bobble-Head Bobby but I wear the uniform proudly every day.
