Chapter Four

"They are seeing him." Raven spoke softly after what seemed like hours of just pacing in front of Robin, Starfire, Jinx and Wally in silence. "I didn't think it would be this soon…"

"Who?" Robin questioned, eye brow raised.

Raven stopped her movement, turning to fully face Robin; her bottom lip catching with her teeth. "…Trigon…"

"Can he hurt them?" Robin's first question caused a small smile to creep onto her face, he really had grown to care about them.

Raven shook her head slowly. "… Not yet… hopefully, if I can help it, not at all."

"Please, friend, what does he want with them?" Starfire asked, she too had worry in her voice.

"… Not sure…" Raven muttered.

She let out a sigh and turned to collapse backwards onto the lounge, in-between Starfire and Jinx; who both turned to look at her in concern. "Anything we can do?" Jinx was the first to ask a question they were all wondering.

Raven shook her head once more. "Not yet… I'll let you know though…" She sighed again, leaning forward; resting her elbows on her knees and her chin on her hands. "Sorry they ruined dinner…"

Jinx smiled warmly at the once 'gothic queen', motherhood had sure softened her. "It wasn't your kids that ruined it." She joked softly, nudging Raven gently.

"They sure didn't help the situation." Was her muttered reply.

Robin pushed himself up from the lounge turning to face the four titans. "How about I make us all some tea or coffee and you guys can catch up with Raven. She has some killer stories about the triplets."

"Sounds good to me!" Wally grinned, getting up off the lounge as well. "I'll help make it."

The five Titans had stayed up late into the night, chatting with one another, swapping stories about the crimes the titans had or about the triplets and what they had gotten up too. Raven had realized she had missed them a lot more than she first thought and the four Titans had realized how much Raven had matured and grown as a person; they missed her… and seeing her children grow.

"And then Kaiden hid from me, as a mouse, for two hours! Not that his sisters helped me find him." Raven laughed, placing her tea on the table as the titans joined her laugher.

"Shape-shifting kids would be hell to look after!" Jinx giggled. "Good thing only two can do it right?"

Raven shook her head with a sigh. "Alyssa can morph into small animal, nothing bigger than a sheep, but small means easier to hide…"

"Dam." Jinx smirked. "Doesn't help that they're smart either."

"Nope it doesn't… Alyssa, easily the smartest kid I've ever met, is their ring leader, has her siblings wrapped around her little finger. I once lost all three of them for four hours"

The group broke out into laughter once more, enjoying the story telling session, just then Beastboy walked into the main room, hearing the end of Raven's latest story. He felt all eyes land on him, causing the laughter to stop. He cleared his throat uncomfortably, making his way towards the kitchen. Robin looked towards Raven who was staring down at the remaining liquid on her cup.

"I think it's time for me to hit the hay." He said quickly standing, stretching as he did so.

"Us too." Jinx added softly taking Wally's hand and pulling in from the lounge. "We'll see you guys tomorrow."

"Come on, Star, I'll walk you to your room." Robin smiled softly taking her hand in his.

Raven watched them quickly exit the room, leaving only her and Beastboy behind; this made her instantly uncomfortable. She placed her mug on the coffee table, standing up to take her exit as well before his words stopped her in her tracks. "Wait... Please."

She turned to look towards him, controlling whatever emotion she was feeling- she wasn't even sure what emotions she was feeling. "Is there something you want, Beastboy?"

He rubbed the back of his neck, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. Raven couldn't help but notice the muscles in his arms. "I wanted to apologies for dinner… There… there isn't anything between Terra and I…"

"Beastboy…-"

"Let me finish…" He interrupted her quickly before she could get another word out. "She's been insisting on sleeping in my room because she was 'worried' I was drinking too much. She's had my bed and I've been on a fold out couch…"

"You really don't need-"

"I just wanted you to know the truth… that's all." He gave a shrug with a sigh of defeat, turning away from her and heading off to the fridge.

Raven's mind told her to leave now while she had the chance but she couldn't will her feet to move, she chewed gently on her bottom lip with a sense of guilt eating away at her. There were so many things she wanted to say to him but whenever she opened her mouth to speak, the words failed her. She hesitated for a moment taking a deep breath; she needed to at least give them a chance at being friends again. She took cautious steps towards the kitchen. "I… I'm sorry for what I did, Beastboy." She watched as he turned around to stare at her, confusion a clear emotion on his face. "I… I honestly thought what I was doing was right… but perhaps I was…" She frowned. "…Wrong…" Beastboy let the fridge door close behind him as he gave her his full attention. "I was… scared. I didn't know what I was doing… I wanted to give you the chance to be… everything I knew you could be… I didn't want to force you to be something you didn't want to be… I deserve your anger… I understand that… I-"

"I regret what I said to both you and the children when you first arrived, I'm sorry. It was a lot to take it and I took it wrong…" Beastboy interrupted her, taking a small step forward, careful not to scare her off, he was finally getting a conversation with her. "I'm …" He thought for a moment, he needed to be very careful what he said because he now understood that she truly believed she was doing the right thing. "I'm sad I missed out on everything… missed out on being there for you…I…" He wanted so much to tell her he loved her; he had always loved her and always will love her. She was his light, his heart, his soul. But he didn't want to scare her off. "I missed you."

Beastboy had walked up to her, stopping just in front of her. She was looking up at him, her heart pounding against her chest; she had missed him, so much. The nights she was up with all three triplets crying, the times they were sick, when they started crawling, talking, and using their powers; she had always wished she had him to share it with. "I missed you too." It was so soft he almost missed her saying it completely.

Beastboy smiled, reaching up and very gently pushing a loose strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear. "I want to be their dad, Raven. I want to get to know our kids."

Raven stared at him, her mind fuzzy with him being so close to him. "You do?"

"There's nothing I want more." He replied, giving her a lopsided smile that made her heart flutter.

Raven breathed, not realizing she had been holding her breath. She wanted nothing more than to throw her arms around him and hug him tightly, praying for him to never let go; but she restrained herself; suddenly a high pitched scream sounded throughout the tower, echoing throughout the empty halls. "Aurora!" Raven said turning and floating full speed towards her room.

She felt Beastboy hot on her heels in cheetah form. "Mummy!" Kadien's voice cried out, it had distress too it as another scream rippled through the hallway. She noted the other titans running out of their rooms at the sounds of the commotion.

Raven sped into her room, the dark shadow stood over the bed as Alyssa stood in front of her brother and sister, hands and eyes alight protecting them. "Mummy!" Aurora cried upon seeing her mother enter the room.

Raven flew in front of her children, her breath caught in her throat at the demonic shadow, its smirk wide, eyes red as blood. "Ah dearest Raven, it has been a long time." Its voice would have given her goosebumps if she wasn't so focused on protecting her children. The other Titans turned up at the door, looking in at the scene. "What nice children you have there."

Raven's hands became engulfed in black, her eyes glowing white. "They are not for you, demon." The demon simple smirked at her, a long tongue running across his yellow teeth. Suddenly it lunged forward; claws out swiping at Raven, the children screamed throwing her off guard as the demon's claws pieced the skin in her left forearm. Her eyes turned red, matching that of the demon, a second pair appearing; her voice grew dark. "Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" The ground ripped open, a giant black hand reaching up and grabbing the demon, pulling if from Raven and dragging it back down the hole before closing up.

Raven grasped the new wound on her arm, trying to stop the blood as she fell off the bed and to the ground. "Mummy!" The three cried at once running to her side.

"Raven!" The titans all yelled at once, running towards her as well.

Raven quickly withdrew away from them all, moving towards the closest and darkest corner, pushing herself up against the wall, closing her eyes and focusing on banishing her demon self. Her wounded arm shook as the dark red blood dripped down onto the carpet, she needed to focus, she needed to calm down and regain herself but she was so angry at the demon that she wanted to rip them all apart.

"Rae…" Beastboy said softly taking a cautious step towards her. "You're okay… the kids are okay… You can come back now." He stopped before he was too close to her but still that he was close enough. "They need you."

Raven opened her eyes and blinked the red disappearing along with the second pair of eyes, her breathing slowed as she regained herself. "I'm sorry." She whispered, looking towards her children. Alyssa and Kaiden ran at their mother in tears, throwing themselves on her, gripping her tightly while Aurora crashed into Beastboy's arms in tears, nearly toppling him over. Raven was staring wide eyed, using her good hand to hold her wound against her chest to stop it bleeding while the children cried.

"Raven, are you okay?" Robin asked walking towards her; the other titans very close behind.

Raven nodded slowly, her mind still trying to calm herself down before she blew something up. "Y…yeah." She didn't like how unsteady her voice sounded.

Beastboy held Aurora in his arms while stroking her hair, trying his best to calm her. "Are you sure?" His voice was full of concern.

She nodded, watching as Cyborg walked up to her, bending down and taking her arm into his hand to get a look at the fresh wound. "We need to get this patched up, it's bleeding a lot."

"Robin, Star, can you take them?" Her voice was still betraying her, showing its shakiness. Robin walked up and gently pulled Kaiden off her lap and against his chest while Starfire did the same to Alyssa, Aurora still clinging to Beastboy.

Cyborg helped Raven up off the floor, hearing her hiss in pain. "You okay?"

"Yeah… it just burns." Raven cleared her throat uncomfortably. "Demons tend to leave a burn behind."

"Don't leave us mummy." Aurora whispered from her father's arms, her grip on him tight and he knew she was terrified.

Raven looked between her three children, tears running down their cheeks, fear in their eyes. She nodded her head sadly; she never wanted them to face this. "You can come to the infirmary too."

Cyborg led them to the infirmary, forcing Raven to get onto one of the infirmary beds as he scanned over the wound and bandage it appropriately. Alyssa was curled up besides her mother asleep with Kaiden asleep on her chest, Beastboy sat on a chair beside the bed with Aurora asleep on him; it was clear she had taken a liking to her father. Robin paced in front of the bed while Cyborg finished what he was doing, Starfire sitting on a spare bed.

"What was that?" Robin asked quietly, understanding the children were asleep. "I mean I understand it was a demon but what did it want."

Raven sighed looking at her newly bandaged arm, it stung harshly and she pulled a face because of it. "I assume this has to do with the fact they are dreaming about him. You all understand what my father is and how he has many under his control. Though there also will be stray demons that want nothing more than their blood, they are the underlords blood after all. They feel it will make them more power and able to challenge my father for the underworld. I had plenty demons try that shit on me when I was young; I was hoping they wouldn't with the children." She sighed once again, feeling horrible that it was because of her that the children were terrified and clinging to her while they slept.

"Will there be more?" Was Robin's next question.

"I don't know there could be… or even worse… he could come." Raven suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head, nausea hitting her like a truck; she knew this was her body rejecting the demons poison. "I… I…" She licked her lips and felt the weakness come over her.

"Raven?" The four team members called out her name, concern in all their voices.

"Body… is fighting demon poison." She breathed her head lolling back before she felt herself lose consciousness.

Raven awoke in a start, sweat beads across her brow, breathing rapid. Her unconscious state had been filled with horrible visions of demons and her children in danger. "Hey… you okay?" The voice startled her as she turned to look at the owner of the voice. "Sorry." Beastboy said softly, leaning forward and stretching, sitting on a chair all night had not been comfortable, especially with a four year old on him.

"Where…" Her throat was dry; she tried swallowing with no relief.

"The children are having breakfast with Star and Robin, they didn't want to leave your side but I told them I'd wait until you woke up." Beastboy knew what she was asking and answered it for her. "It's also nine in the morning."

Raven tried to hide the small smile the crept onto her face; he knew what it was she wanted to ask. "Thank you… Beastboy. For watching over them last night."

Beastboy stood up from the chair, smiling softly at her. "Are you feeling okay enough to get up and get some food?"

Raven sat up, letting out a groan of pain, holding her head for a minute. "Dam that poison is a bitch." Raven muttered under her breath, swinging her legs over the edge of the bed.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

Raven nodded, taking a hold of his upper arm to help steady herself as she slid off the bed, feet landing on the floor. "I'm very used to fighting off demon poison… sadly."

Beastboy felt nervous with her hand on his arm, she was holding him firm enough as to not fall but also gently, he found himself missing all the times he used to hold her in his arms, kiss her, and love her. He had no control over his feelings for this girl, no matter how much he wanted to be angry, upset or pissed off about her up and leaving. All he could feel was absolute love for her. She went to take a step forward and felt herself stumble, losing balance; Beastboy quickly grabbed around her waist and pulled her back up right and against him. She looked up at him with surprise, his arms still wrapped around her securely; her lips were inches away from his and he was losing all the self-control he had left being around her.

"…Sorry." Raven finally spoke up after a moment of the two just staring at each other. "I was just a little weak…"

Beastboy reluctantly let go of her, ensuring she could stand before completely letting her go. "It's fine."

The two headed off to the main room, Beastboy keeping a careful eye on her ensuring she didn't stumble again. He could tell she wasn't feeling one hundred percent as she walked sluggish, raising her hand to her temple and rubbing gently a few times during the short walk. When Raven entered the main room all eyes were on her, her children jumped up and ran towards her. "Mummy!" They all yelled running into her awaiting arms, hugging her tightly.

"Sorry for scaring you guys." She said softly, focusing all her energy on staying on her feet, ignoring the pain in her head.

Beastboy walked passed them and towards the kitchen, flicking the kettle on and getting Raven a tea while she was preoccupied with the children. Starfire flew up to her best friend. "Are you the alright, friend Raven?"

"Yeah… I'm okay thanks Star." Raven replied tapping her children to let them know she was getting up and to release her. "Not my first time being smacked by a demon… probably not my last either." She stood and made her way towards the chair, her legs shaking with every step; she felt weak, weaker than she had any other time.

"Will it come back, mummy?" Aurora asked basically on top of Raven's heels, following her as she walked.

Raven almost collapsed onto the chair, trying her best to hide that fact; though she was breathless from the walk. Beastboy placed the cup of tea in front of her and stared at her as she tried to hide the fact she couldn't catch her breath. Robin knew she was struggling and Aurora was staring at her awaiting an answer. "We don't know if it will or not 'Rora but we won't let it hurt you."

Aurora looked back at Robin with uncertainty, she turned back to look at Beastboy. "Promise?"

Beastboy met her gaze as Kaiden and Alyssa stood either side of her, staring just intently at him as she. He gave a short nod. "Promise."

The three seemed content enough with this for now, Kaiden made his way back to the lounge to sit and watch Cyborg play on the game station. Alyssa sat up next to her mother, reaching over to grab her giant book and continuing to read it. Aurora moved next to her father, staring up at him, clearly wanting his attention. Raven glanced down towards her daughter and rolled her eyes, Aurora was always the one needing the most attention. "Aurora what are you doing?" Raven asked softly holding the cup of tea in between her hands, it felt nice and warm.

Aurora looked from her father, to her mother, then down to the ground, pulling on her fingers uncomfortably. "Daddy, I'm still scared."

Beastboy was second guessing himself; he didn't want to overstep Raven's boundaries. She looked up at him with her big blue eyes, lifting up her little arms asking him to pick her up. Beastboy smiled, there was no way he could refuse her; he bent down and picked her up into his arms. "I'll protect you."

Raven gave a small smile at the scene in front of her, she already had him wrapped around her little finger and they've known each other for twenty-four hours. She stared down at the brown liquid in her cup as the steam danced off the top, she felt guilty she had robbed Beastboy of his children. The main doors swished opened distracting her of her thoughts as she looked up and saw Terra, rolling her eyes she turned back to her tea, she didn't want to deal with that right now. Terra had a frown on her face. "Where have you been all night?"

Aurora turned and buried her head in her father's neck, hiding from Terra. Beastboy adjusted Aurora so she was in a better position for both of them and looked up at Terra, knowing the rest of the team and his two other children were watching. "I was with my children, Terra." He sighed.

Terra glared, placing her hands on her hips. "Why? I was waiting for you all night."

Beastboy became uncomfortable with everyone listening to this conversation; he glanced down at Raven, who was staring at her tea, he could feel the tension coming off her. He then looked just passed Raven and saw Alyssa staring at him, no emotion showing on her face he could pick up on; this girl was going to be hard to get to know. "Because my children needed me and they are more important, if you really must know and bring up a conversation like this in front of everyone."

The tension in the room grew and suddenly everyone became uncomfortable. Raven slowly got to her feet, arms shaking as they helped push her up from the seat, the bandage wrapped around her arm wet with fresh blood. "Mummy?" Alyssa called out worriedly, seeing her mother struggle even just to stand. Raven heard her daughter in a mumble, like her ears had been stuffed with cotton balls. She looked down at the bandage across her arm, the blood soaking through it, making it wet; she suddenly felt very nauseous. Alyssa stood up on the chair fear on her features. "Help my mummy!" She cried causing all the adults in the room but Terra to move towards Raven in a panic. Raven looked from the bandage to her daughter's worried face before she lost consciousness, falling to the floor. They tried to move in time to stop her from hitting the floor, the children cried out and in a flash they along with Raven and Beastboy had disappeared leaving the other titans in the main room.

Beastboy landed in the infirmary still holding onto Aurora, he had no idea what had just happened and he felt displaced. Raven was on one of the infirmary bed with Kaiden and Alyssa either side of her, did they just teleport all of them? Now wasn't the time for questions, he quickly put Aurora down on the bed and ran to the infirmary intercom, pushing down the button to talk through Titans tower. "Guys we're in the infirmary, Cyborg need your help, dude." And with that he left the intercom and ran back to Raven's bed side, carefully grabbing Raven's bandaged arm and quickly unravelling it.

"Dad, what's wrong with mummy?" Kaiden asked with wide eyes watching as Beastboy unwrapped her arm.

Beastboy had no idea what to tell him, he had no idea what was wrong with Raven, he assumed it was the poison she kept talking about but he didn't want to scare the children either. "I'm not sure." He replied finally pulling off the bandage. The four claw marks down her arm were bleeding heavy; the skin around each gash was a black/grey colour. He quickly pulled over one of the computer screens looking through it for the scan function, he had never touched this equipment in his life but he had seen Cyborg do it enough. He found the scan button and quickly pressed it, scooping his children up in his arms and moving them out of the way as the machine began to scan Raven's wound. Alyssa pulled herself free from Beastboy, floating beside him with a frown however Kaiden and Aurora stayed in his arms, holding onto him tightly.

Cyborg entered the room with Robin and Starfire not far behind him. "Oh, good, you got the scan up and going."

Beastboy nodded as Cyborg walked over and began looking at the screens while it scanned Raven. He moved around to gather supplies, she was losing a lot of blood and he had to get some fluids into her to stop her dehydrating. Alyssa flew into Robin's arms and began to cry while Aurora and Kaiden hugged Beastboy. Beastboy watched Alyssa cry on Robin and felt disappointed; she was not going to forgive him any time soon for what he had said when they met. He wanted a relationship with his children, he wanted to be their dad, but Alyssa seemed uninterested in the fact he was really trying.

Robin had decided to postpone the Titans meeting until Raven was better; there was no way he was going to talk to the others about the triplets without Raven. They all sat around in the infirmary while Cyborg worked on fixing Raven who was still currently unconscious. Beastboy sat on the free bed beside Raven's, Kaiden and Aurora sitting on him, Starfire on another bed with Alyssa sitting beside her, book in her lap; while Robin sat beside Cyborg, helping with whatever he could. Beastboy's eye lids felt heavy, he didn't get any sleep last night due to his worry over Raven. His head dropping every so often in exhaustion, he was thankful Terra hadn't shown back up, he didn't have the strength to argue with her right now.

Aurora gave a small poke to her father's arm; he gave her an inquisitive look. "Daddy, you are tired." She whispered.

It sounded more like a statement then a question. "Yeah… I didn't get any sleep last night." He agreed, or answered, he wasn't sure which.

"Were you worried about mummy?" Kaiden piped up, staring at his mother with sad eyes.

Beastboy nodded. "I still am."

"Uncle Cyborg… Is mummy going to be okay?" Kaiden asked watching him intently as he fussed around Raven. Raven had always told bedtime stories of the teen titans, referring to each member as 'uncle' or 'aunty' so the children just assumed that is what they were and had no problem using the words when talking to them; which in turn made the titans proud.

"Your mums a tough one, she'll be okay." Cyborg replied. "She just needs some rest."

This brought smiles to the children's faces. "Thank you, uncle Cy!" They all chimed at once bring a big grin to the robots face.

Beastboy felt relieved, he wanted nothing more than to collapse and sleep now that he knew Raven was on the road to recovery; however it was only midafternoon and his children were awake. "What do you guys want to do? Are you hungry? Do you want to go for a walk? Cyborg will be here to watch over mummy and when she wakes up he can give us a call on this." He held up his T-phone to show them. "You need to get out of the Tower for a bit."

"I want to get ice-cream then go to a park!" Aurora said getting up from her fathers' lap and jumping on the spot excitedly, Kaiden nodding in agreement.

Beastboy smiled before turning to look at Alyssa who stared back at him, frown on her face studying him for a moment; he found himself hoping Alyssa would agree to come with them but he wasn't going to force her. She turned back towards Cyborg. "Do you promise you'll look after her while we're gone?"

Cyborg nodded at the little girl. "Promise."

Alyssa turned back to her father and nodded, letting him know she would come too. Beastboy got the triplets ready to go out, getting what they needed out of Raven's room, still too scared to go in there by themselves. He walked them to his favorite ice-cream shop to get them whatever they wanted, once they had finally sorted out what each wanted they ate their ice-cream before heading over to the park, Aurora and Kaiden squealing and yelling with excitement as they ran towards the large play area. Beastboy smiled taking a seat down on the bench watching the two go. Alyssa sat beside Beastboy on the wooden bench in the park with a big book on her lap, he wondered if he should ask her about why she wasn't off playing with her siblings but he also didn't want to upset her. "I like reading." She spoke softly, eyes never leaving the pages. "Books make me happy, I find learning fun."

"You're just like your mother. The days she would spend on the lounge reading a book." He smiled fondly at the many memories he had of Raven.

Alyssa looked up from her book at that, looking towards her father and seeing the smile on his face. "Did you miss mummy?"

Beastboy met her gaze, her eyes the prettiest green, probably the only thing about her that was him. He knew she was a very intelligent child, probably smarter than kids ten times her age, however she was till only four. "I did."

Alyssa seemed to contemplate this, after a moment she gave a nod of her head and turned back to her book, content enough Beastboy gathered. Kaiden and Aurora played on the jungle gym laughing as they played; Beastboy watched them having such fun as they played and couldn't help the smile on his face. When he first met these children he wasn't the least bit welcoming, he was angry and hurt, wanting nothing to do with them but as he watched them play he knew he wanted to be in their life forever.

"Dad! Look at this!" Kaiden called out waving his arms to get his father's attention. When he was sure his father was paying full enough attention he morphed into a monkey and swung across the monkey bars with ease, reaching the last bar and hanging off it with his tail.

Beastboy laughed as his son made faces while swinging. "Very impressive." He stood up and gave Alyssa a gentle touch on the shoulder before running over to Kaiden and Aurora, morphing into a monkey and hanging off the bars too.

This made his children squeal with delight as they watched him play with them. Alyssa looked up from her book, watching as the three played together laughing. She glanced down at her book for a moment before slowly shutting it, putting it down on the bench; she got up and ran over to play with them. They played into the afternoon; Beastboy explained how to morph to the girls who weren't as good at it as Kaiden while playing games and having fun. As the day came to an end Beastboy got them home, gave them dinner and helped them bath and get ready for bed. He allowed the three to sleep in the infirmary next to Raven for now, lying on the bed with them while he read them a story, it wasn't long before all four of them were asleep; it had been a long day.
