Blood Ties,
Chapter 26
Vampire Knight © Matsuri Hino
Several months had passed since the Night Class had returned to Cross Academy and the time had carried out without incident. The Day Class still swamped the gates each time the mysteriously beautiful students had to attend classes, they still swooned each time they caught a glimpse of the stunning features of their idols.
The vampires, excluding Aidou, continued to keep their distance from the human students, never getting too close to one in fear of losing control and giving in to their primal instincts. Aidou, however, was as flamboyant as always, flirting shamelessly with those so deeply devoted to him, enjoying the way they fought amongst each other in order to gain his attention for the split second that it would take him to flash them a perfect smile that would make her heartbeats stutter and cause the blood to rush to his face.
For him, however, it was almost just an act. Like he was just going through the motions and doing what he felt others expected him to do in order to feel normal. But his attention was elsewhere, was with somebody else that infuriated him despite not even knowing her. With all the girls that threw themselves at him -sometimes literally-, he craved attention from one girl.
Part of him craved to talk to her. To figure her out and understand the way that she thinks. The few times that he saw her around the school campus over the passing months, she had such a magnificent aura. For a young girl, the maturity and calmness that she had was so apparent that it took him off guard. The kindness in her eyes was something he was unused to seeing in a girl of her age and the way that she held herself screamed to him that she was shy and reserved. But he didn't understand her at all, he didn't know what could cause her to be so shy. To him, she was beautiful.
Her hair framed her face in just the right way and he enjoyed the way that the wind made it dance around her when she was outside and the interestingly different shades of brown that were highlighted by the evening sun. It made him wish that he could reach out and touch it, to tuck the brown strands behind her ears and allow him to get a waft of the scent that he knew would be intoxicating. To be able to brush his fingers along the side of her face when he was done and feel the softness of her skin. He imagined that she would blush if he did, avert her eyes and smile to herself at the feeling of him touching her.
But the vain side of him wished that this infuriating girl would fall in line with the rest and bow down to his beauty just so he could prove that she was exactly like the others, that the apparent unphased look on her face when she saw him was a mere façade and that deep down, she was no more immune to his looks than any other woman he had ever come across. It drove him crazy that one insignificant human girl had managed to hold his attention for more than a minute and that she appeared to lack any type of interest in him.
He assured himself that, if he could get close enough to her to where she couldn't politely evade him when he looked towards her, that she would lose herself in his gleaming blue eyes and fall for him like all the other day class students do. That she, too, would become obsessed and crave his attention like the others and that he could move on knowing that he would always be worshipped by anybody that he comes in contact with.
The noble tried desperately to delude himself that there was no way that this girl could not want him and that it was the mere fact that she was too shy to show it that caused him to think this way. That it was just her lack of interest that caused his cravings for her attention and approval. He didn't even know her name! He could not be getting feelings towards a girl who he knew absolutely nothing about because deep down, he knew that every person is secretly as shallow as him. He was just more upfront about it.
Curious. That what he was. That's what he told himself to stop him from going crazy at the idea of wanting somebody that didn't want him. But he needed to speak to her, to get close to her. To prove that he was right so he could get her out of his head once and for all.
Whilst he continued to act flirtatiously and cocky around his friends, fellow student and admirers, he was concocting a plan to get this girl out of his system. To figure out her mystery and move on. He just needed to figure out a way to start that wouldn't be too obvious to his friends. He refused to let them know that a single girl is driving him crazy.
A/N; Hey guys. This little installment has been published because it is going to be important to the upcoming developments in the story. Plus it's fun to get into the mind of Hanabusa! There are so many ways that you can portray him based on what has been given to us in the manga.
As you can see, I'm choosing to go with him being vain yet kind of (adorably so) vulnerable. Because that's the way I see him being. But, as I said, there are so many ways to portray this awesome character. He truly is one of my favourite manga characters of all time. (Kaname being top because y'know, he's awesome).
I have had a serious lack of motivation when it comes to writing this story lately (as I'm sure you can tell with how long it has been since I updated. Sorry!). The way the manga ended just kind of made me "grr". But I know I need to finish this because you guys were such amazing fans when I started out.
I'm just not completely sure where I'm going with this anymore.
Anyway, please please review and tell me what you think about this little insight into out favourite blue eyed friend! Your feedback is always loved!
