-A/N- Hallo! I am back to try for my second contest! I saw the prompt and I knew I could write for it, I know EVERYTHING about my little fluffy Sessho-kun. Anyways, you get another angsty dark fic, because that's just how I write. It's funny, really. My best friend says she gets nervous when I'm not smiling; she says I look too serious and it's just not right! I'm always the weirdo who finds odd things to talk about and wears flip-flops in the snow. Oh, well. Some of life's mysteries are best left... mysteries. Right now I am stuck on the video 'Draw With Me'... It's the sweetest thing I've ever seen!! If you haven't yet, you should go watch it on youtube. And thus my teenaged ramblings must end.

Rin had told him she loved him.

In the innocent, childish way Rin liked to phrase things, of course, but nonetheless...

Sesshomaru had been resting while Rin sat on Ah-Un's back, singing songs of flowers, wind, and dreams, and Jaken had scrambled about, trying to set up a camp without upsetting his lord in any way, which time and time again proved to be a rather difficult task. Rin had abruptly stopped singing, a look of contemplation gracing her features. She gingerly tiptoed over to the Daiyoukai and waited for him to acknowledge her, which he did without hesitation.

"What is it, Rin?" he asked quietly. He could see doubt cloud over in her bright eyes before she started.

"Sesshomaru-sama, since Rin has no family anymore, Rin was wondering..." Here she hesitated and nibbled on her lower lip. "Could Sesshomaru-sama and Jaken-sama and Ah-Un be my new family? Rin really loves Sesshomaru-sama a lot, and he is like her family already!" Her eyes shone brightly with anticipation, and he turned over what she had said in his mind while Jaken screeched at her for being a foolish human.

When he had first seen her, the smiles she gave him warmed his heart, though his exterior did not show it. She was unable to talk, but she offered him bright smiles that made him wish for her to come back. He recognized this weakness and tried to turn her away, but she kept coming back. And he found that he did not actually mind all that much. When he had recovered from the damage the wind scar had brought onto him, he caught the faint scent of her blood in the air, metallic and coppery, and it made his stomach turn over. As he continued on, her body lay lifeless on the path before him, the dirt turned to a thick red mud with the blood seeping out of the wounds. Her eyes were glassy and dull, she had obviously been dead a few hours already. As Tenseiga pulsed, he was angered that his sword should tell him what to do, but found he could not turn away, willing to do anything to see her smiling face again. So he had pulled the long blade from it's sheath, watching as it glittered in the light, and carved the demons of the underworld to ribbons. He cradled the child as she took a shuddering breath and opened her eyes, and as she followed him down the path a scant few seconds later, he found he had no desire to send her off. He felt like this now, willing to do anything for a smile.

"Very well," he chuckled, "This Sesshomaru will be your family."

As predicted, Rin's face was split with a large grin, and she went to tell Jaken about this latest event, leaving Sesshomaru in her wake.

'To see her smiling face again...'
