Omake

America and his western children were once again at the train station, this time saying goodbye. He watched as Nevada and Utah boarded the train, arguing about something yet again. Colorado and Wyoming followed their brothers, egging them on when they could. America chuckled and turned back to face his Pacific States. "Thank you for inviting us, Cat." He said softly. "We had fun."

"No problem." California grinned.

"We'll see you the next time you visit this side of the country, Dad." Oregon said.

Washington just threw his arms around the nation and whispered in his father's ear, "Bye, Dad."

"Goodbye, George." America returned, smiling gently. Pulling back, he held Alaska up and made his hand wave. "Say bye bye, Willy." Behind him, hanging out the windows, the other states grinned and waved as well.

"Ma-ma!" Alaska said, waving his fists around. America froze and turned the little territory to face him. "Ma-ma!" Alaska repeated.

"Did you hear that?!" America exclaimed. "His first word!" The states just looked at each other, not quite sure what to make of their father gushing over their youngest brother.

"Hey, Cat!" Colorado called from the window. "Please tell me he wasn't like this with us."

California snorted, "I think you know the answer to that." As one the states turned to watch their father fussing over the tiny blond boy.

"Any bets on how long it takes him to realize Will just called him 'Mom?'" Wyoming asked, a mischievous grin pulling at his lips.

Utah gave his brother an offended look as Nevada replied, "I bet you'll reach South Pass before he notices."

"Nah, I think he won't notice until we reach Cheyenne." Colorado countered.

"You guys are horrible!" Utah huffed, clearly giving up on arguing the morality of what they were doing. The others just laughed.

America stepped off the train in Chicago, still happily telling anyone that would listen that his baby had just said his first word. Alaska cooed at every passerby and continued to call his father 'Mama.' Well, to be fair, America hadn't actually noticed yet, although several of the train's passengers had attempted to correct the little boy. Somehow, all of this had escaped the young nation's notice. Fortunately for all involved, America still had the presence of mind to change trains (and get on the correct one). As he headed for the correct train, he spotted Illinois waiting for him inside the train depot.

"Abe!" He shouted eagerly, all but running towards his son. "Guess what?" America beamed as he arrived in front of the black-haired state.

Illinois gave his scatterbrained father an annoyed look. "Yes, Father?" He asked dryly. "What is it?" Of course, he already knew. He'd already received three telegrams informing him of Alaska's first word.

America beamed happily and proudly showed off Alaska. "Willy said his first word! Isn't that great?" He looked down at the blond boy. "Say it again, Willy!"

"Mama!" Alaska shouted cheerfully, throwing his little arms around the nation. "Mama!"

"See?" Illinois hadn't thought America's grin could get any wider, but apparently it could.

The Midwestern State stared at his father and wondered for a moment if he ought to say anything. It was awfully tempting to simply let the nation continue to make a fool of himself… "Father, are you seriously happy that William is calling you 'Mom?'" Well, maybe he wasn't quite as mean as his siblings. After all, he had a feeling that if he hadn't told the man, no one would have until America decided to show off William's new ability to the President.

America gave his more solemn son a confused look. "Of course I'm happy. Why wouldn't I be?" He turned back to Alaska just as the boy shouted 'Mama!' once more. The blond blinked, his son's question fully registering for the first time. "Mama?" He repeated hesitantly. America's bewildered face turned horrified as he suddenly realized why everyone kept laughing at him.

Illinois couldn't help himself. At his father's look of horror and subsequent humiliation, he burst out laughing. He knew his siblings would be upset with him for ruining the joke (it wouldn't be the first and certainly not the last time either), but he was definitely glad that he got to be the one to see America's face. By the time America started attempting to correct Alaska, Illinois was laughing so hard he was certain his sides were going to split. When America finally left to catch his train, Illinois made his way to the telegram office. This was something that needed to be shared with everyone, starting with Franklin D. Roosevelt.

America walked into the White House, feeling more than a little irritable. He'd tried for nearly a week now, but he still couldn't convince Alaska that his name was 'Daddy' not 'Mama.' He was at the point where he was glad for a break from the little territory for a little while. "Ah, Alfred!" He turned as he heard his boss address him.

"Hey boss!" America grinned, already feeling better. "Did I miss anything?" The nation quickly fell into step beside the charismatic man.

President Roosevelt smiled slightly. "Not much, mostly paperwork and the like." He paused for a moment, and then smirked at the (seemingly) younger man. "What's this I hear about you being a mother?"

A.N. And somehow President Roosevelt made an impromptu appearance at the end… I thought about making this a stand-alone drabble, but I felt it was tied a little too heavily into my Hamburgers one-shot to really make sense otherwise. So I guess this could be considered a bonus scene of sorts.

Also, Illinois' human name is Abraham, but very few of his siblings will ever call him that; it usually gets shortened to 'Abe.' He also has a tendency to take himself a little too seriously.
