Rin's Pillow

Rin was very cold that night. As the little girl lay there on the pile of leaves, she pulled the blanket so it was covering more of her. It had been given to her by Sesshomaru not long after she had joined his small group. However it wasn't enough to keep her warm. Rin sat up, looking around.

They were in the middle of a forest, tall trees all around them. Rin could hear sounds from demons far away, but none dared to come close because Sesshomaru was there with them. Not far away, Jaken was already sleeping and making snoring sounds. The imp demon had fallen asleep the moment he had put his head down.

Sesshomaru was sleeping besides a tall tree, his eyes closed.

Rin slowly got up and started walking to where the dog demon was resting. The man had long silver hair and wore a long white kimono. He had taken off his armor and put it onto the ground not far away. Whenever he slept, he would always find a place to be alone. Rin wanted to ask his permission to start up another the fire since it was so cold. Before she could say a word, something made her stop.

It was the fluffy tail that was wrapped on Sesshomaru's shoulder.

Rin quietly walked forward, taking the fluffy tail in her hand. She put it against her face.

"So soft..." Rin whispered, happily.

Rin couldn't help but smile. As she was kneeling there, she wrapped the fluffy tail around herself and lay down besides him. Rin closed her eyes and fell asleep.

The next morning, when she awoke she realized something was different. It was much warmer now that the sun was out. She heard a loud sound that was like drums and realized that it was someone's heartbeat. Rin quickly opened her eyes, seeing that Sesshomaru was awake. The little girl nearly jumped when she remembered that she had used his tail as a pillow all night.

Sesshomaru stared down at her curiously.

"Lord Sesshomaru..." Rin muttered, frightened. "Please... please don't be angry."

"What are you doing lying beside me?"

After she got up, she realized how hard it was for her to look at his golden eyes.

"I was cold. I didn't want to wake you..."

"I see," Sesshomaru answered, looking away.

"You aren't mad at me?" Rin asked, staring up at him.

Sesshomaru didn't say anything. Instead of being angry like she had expected him to be, he was very calm as he got to his feet. He walked over to his side and started putting on his armor. After he was done, he placed the sheathed Tenseiga at his hip.

"Can I sleep beside you whenever I get cold?" Rin questioned, saying what was on her mind.

"Do whatever you wish, Rin."

Rin felt herself smiling.

"Lord Sesshomaru!" Jaken screamed.

When Rin turned around, she saw the imp demon running over to where the two of them were standing. Jaken looked shocked and also angry.

"Lord Sesshomaru! Why did you let the human sleep next to you?" Jaken cried.

"Why are you asking me this Jaken?"

"Um... can I sleep next to you too like Rin?"

Sesshomaru stared down at his servant and didn't speak for a very long time. Suddenly he walked forward, stepping on Jaken with his right foot. The imp let out a yell.

After Sesshomaru left the campsite, Rin rushed over to Jaken's side.

"Master Jaken! Do... do you need help?"

Jaken looked up at the little girl and sighed. He knew that as a demon he didn't get cold as easily a human like Rin. Sesshomaru was going to let Rin sleep besides him whenever she was freezing. Why did humans get cold so easily? It wasn't fair.

"I wish that I was a human girl," Jaken muttered.
