Air Planes
A Song Fic based on the song by Gary Allen.
Days flew by like the many birds that were heading to warmer sun began to set yet again as Inuyasha sat on a branch and watched the golden orb sink below the horizon. It had only been a week since Kagome had left, but to him it felt like months. He couldn't figure out what he had done wrong. The half demon thought about it day and night, but still his mistake eluded him. It had to be something big, otherwise she would've come back by now. Darkness began to fall as the sun got closer and closer to disappearing. Inuyasha sighed and turnd his face away from the brightness of the glowing sphere.
He could see the village from his perch. One by one the torches were lit and the villagers went into their homes. He could remember when He had a hut to go into when the sun was gone. His home. Everyone would eat, and make jokes, and laugh together, but it wasn't the same without Kagome. Oh! How he missed that!
The half demon's amber eyes filled with tears as he recalled the day she left. It had been a beautiful day. The sun shone brightly and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The flowers filled the air with a heavenly aroma. When she had approached him, asking if he wanted to walk with her, he didn't think anything was wrong. How could anything be wrong on such a wonderful day?
They walked through his forest together in silence. It wasn't until she stopped walking that he even thought anything could be wrong.
"Inuyasha?" She turned to him with a questioning look on her face. Her eyes which were normally so lively and happy, seemed dull and sad.
"Yeah..." He was confused by her change of attitude. Inuyasha just wished he knew what was on her mind. "What's wrong, Kagome?"
She sighed and looked away from his, but he could smell the tears in her eyes. Was it his fault? "What would you say if i told you that i wanted to go home and be an ordinary teenager?"
Realization hit him like an arrow. He felt a pain in his chest as his eyes took in what he had missed: the yellow backpack. They were in the meadow with the bone eater's well. Why hadn't he noticed it sooner?
"You're gonna come back... I need you--" He was cut off by Kagome's irritated grunt.
"I know. You need me to find all the shards..." She started walking toward the well. Inuyasha felt his heart falling apart. The dark haired girl sat on the edge of the well, reached in her pocked and pulled out the small bottle she kept her shards in. "I refuse to be your shard detector any longer."
"But Kagome, I--" He tried to explain himself, but she cut him off again.
"Kikyo can find the shards in my place..."She dropped the bottle in the grass by the well. "Good bye, Inuyasha." And then she was gone.
Since that day, the only time he had even entered the village was to eat. The tears poured from his eyes and the half demon just wiped them away. He was far too used to them now. The sun was completely gone now. Inuyasha turned to look towards the meadow where she had said good bye.
He wondered what would happen if he went through the well and told her everything he wanted to say. He didn't want Kikyo, he wanted Her. Kagome, the living girl from the future. The girl who had freed him from Kikyo's spell. Inuyasha closed his eyes and shook the thought from his mind. She'd probably just sit him until he left
He looked up at the sky again. The moon was up and it was the start of yet another night without her.
