Perfectly Tohru

"Come on, Tohru!"

"Hah hah!" With an adorable smile on her face, the little girl ran to her waiting mother. She felt like nothing could go wrong, with her laughing mom beside her. Once she got there, Kyoko spun her arooud joyously. Both were laughing so hard they didn't think they would ever stop.

A wistful Tohru sat by the window, remembering her mom. Slowly, she lifted her hand to her face, and was surprised to feel wet tears. She stared at the colourful leaves outside, and felt a suffocating sadness wash over her. "Mom…" the girl whispered, letting more tears fall down her lovely face.

Tohru hunched over her chair, rocking back and forth, her salty tears dripping from her chin. That was how Kyo found her a few hours later. "Tohru-chan!" he exclaimed, sprinting over to his broken wife. "What's wrong?"

"Kyo-kun!" The sweet girl looked up, trying her hardest to smile while wiping away her tears. "N-nothing's wrong. I was just watching the leaves fall, and I got sentimental, that's all!" Her concerned husband sat down beside her, and gently touched Tohru's forehead.

"Tohru. What's wrong?"

Tears burst down Tohru's distraught face again, and she buried her face in Kyo's inviting shirt. Finally, when she was able to control herself, the usually cheerful onigiri swallowed and started to speak. "Today reminded me of my mom, and I didn't think I was going to cry, but- Oh, Kyo, I know I'll never be as good a person as her, or as ougoing as Uo-chan, or as funny as Hana-chan!I have no redeeming qualities, and… and I just want to be me!" She was shouting now, clenching her fists as she confided in a shocked Kyo.

At last, he grinned and bent his head so he was at Tohru's ey level. He whispered softly into her ear. "There's one thing you're perfect at, Tohru." His beautiful lover blinked, and he continued. "You're perfect at being Tohru. Nobody else can rival you in that, because you're so lovable and caring and innocent. Everybody who knows you loves you, just as you love them. I love you. Please don't forget that."

Her entire face lit up when Kyo finished, and she engulfed her husband in an overjoyed hug. "Arigatou, Kyo." she whispered. Slowly, his muscular arms found their way around Tohru's body.

"You're welcome." He answered, a smile touching his lips. The couple stayed in that position until night fell upon them.

The End.

Disclaimer: I never owned Fruits Basket or its characters. If I did, I wouldn't be here!

Author's Notes: I wrote this last year, and I was perfectly content with it then. Now, looking back, I know it could be longer, but, aside from a few word changes, I left it the same as it was a year ago so I can observe how my writing style has changed throughout the years! Oh, and for those of you who say that Kyo would never be this nice: read the manga. As the manga progresses, Kyo becomes a lot nicer, and he'd definitely treat his own wife with kindness! Enjoy the stary! If you don't like it, say so! Thanks!
