"Shishō?"

Tsunade looked up from the medical textbook to meet her apprentice's eyes. "What is it?"

"Well," Sakura began, "has there ever been a famous husband or wife of a Kage?"

"What?" The blond frowned.

"Has there ever been a Kage whose spouse was famous?" The question was simple enough, really; Sakura wasn't sure why her mentor found it so odd.

Tsunade sighed. "No, there hasn't." She watched her student's lips press together. "I suppose that if they were, it would have to be before they married a Kage."

And like that, a smile returned to Sakura's face. "Okay then." Without another word, she was out the door.

Tsunade couldn't call herself a good Hokage if she didn't have some informant in other lands. She couldn't call herself a good teacher if her student wasn't making a name for herself. So when her spies in the various lands began bringing back reports of an "unstoppable pink-haired whirlwind" she was quite proud. Sakura was famous, and rightly so. More tales came in describing "a true medical genius- surely better than the great Tsunade-hime" and she knew that her almost-daughter was slowly but surely surpassing her teacher.

Sakura's question flitted around the edges of her memory.

It was only when she was bouncing a golden-haired, green-eyed child on her knee that the question resurfaced in her mind. Tsunade looked at her daughter with a curious gaze, never once forgetting the young kunoichi-to-be on her lap. "Sakura?"

"What is it?" The pinkette asked, turning to smile at her mother (teacher/friend/pillar).

"How did you know you would be a Kage's wife?"

"Not just any Kage," Sakura murmured, "The Hokage."

Tsunade nodded. "How?"

"Because I knew that Naruto would be Hokage someday." She was still smiling, but her gaze was focused on the stone faces. "That, I never doubted."
