To Lose the Earth
She stands on her feet and sees the whole world
Her eyes are blind, but she knows her surroundings
Better than anyone else.
_
She knows how to fear and respect the earth
As it trembles at her feet; she makes it her slave –
A puppet to do her bidding.
_
But she knows it has a mind of its own
And is cautious, and so careful –
One little slip and the world could come crashing down.
_
It is her sister, her brother and her best friend
All she ever knew and all that she loves
It is her vassal, her safety, her home.
_
The earth is her father, her mother, her soul
It feels like her lover, and truth be told
If it were to crumble, so would she.
_
Independent as she is
It is her master as much as she is to it
Strong as she may be, she would be nothing with it gone.
_
To lose the earth would be to lose herself
Her will to live and all she believed
All she wanted – and everything she had.
_
She does not fly or play with fire
Her desire does not lie within the depths of water either
They are naught but play friends to her.
_
Her friends who are not made of earth –
They think her strong and mighty, which in truth
She very well is; but strength does not come with admirers.
_
When the day comes when it all falls down
She will go down with her ship – the loyal captain
And afraid as she may be inside, she will not abandon ship.
_
Brave at heart, she'll whisper goodbye
As the earth goes down, she'll prepare to die
Because she'll see nothing more worth living for.
_
When all the good things fall apart
What's a woman without a heart?
No way to love, to feel or to see.
_
Without her soul she is nothing more
Than locked away behind a door
Where all she can do is fade away.
_
To lose the earth is to lose her sight
She cannot see to save herself
The world around her would be black as night.
_
To lose her earth is to lose her life, her love, her soul
And all she holds dear – so to lose herself entirely
Would be done if indeed, she were to lose the earth.
