Chapter One Hundred-Seventy
Epilogue: Twelve Years Later
"Merlin, I thought this place was packed on a normal Sunday," Ron said sitting down next to his best friends in the back yard of his childhood home. "But to celebrate 'The Harry Potter's' birthday, I think we have half the wizarding community here."
"Nah, not quite that many," Harry chuckled but it was remarkable about the share number of people that were here now. It was even more remarkable that he would considered everyone here part of his family. "Maybe a quarter."
"Do you think that Sirius is going to stop teaching at Hogwarts once Reg starts there?" Ron asked.
"I don't think Sirius is ever going to stop teaching ... he might even pull a Binns," Harry chuckled, it had come to a surprise to most of the wizarding world that Sirius Black had dared to remain at Hogwarts after his first year as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. After all the job had been curse for so long it seemed impossible for someone to stay at the position for long, but knowing that the caster of the curse was now dead, Sirius was all for staying on.
"Funny you should mention Binns, I hear that he finally realized that he was dead and then vanished and hasn't been seen since," Ron said.
"Really," Harry said surprised, in fact that was probably the most surprised that Harry had been about his ex-history professor since he had flown through the chalkboard in their first lesson. "Who's teaching History now."
"You sound like Hermione," Ron snorted, "that's the first thing she asked Neville, when he told us."
"You don't know the answer," Harry commented dryly.
"Nope," Ron said with a smile. "But Nev said that he heard rumors that maybe a certain werewolf might be asked."
"Interesting," Harry said thoughtfully, he knew that Remus enjoyed his job at the muggle elementary school that he teaches at, but he wondered if his godfather might enjoy working at Hogwarts again. "Not sure Teddy's going to like that though ... at least he'll probably like it about as much as Reg is looking forward to being taught by his dad."
"Ah, they'll get over it," Ron shrugged, thinking about the two boys that were Harry's younger siblings of sort. Regulus Remus Black had been born a year and half after Sirius and Emmeline's surprise wedding, and Harry was surprised and honored when Sirius had asked him to be the boys godfather. Ted James Lupin was born only a few month laters and both boys were happy that they would be going to school together.
"Do you know I still find it strange that they didn't grow up in the same house together," Harry said changing the subject somewhat. It was true that while Harry was still going to school they had all lived in the same house still, but before his seventh year even ended, Sirius and Emmeline settled into a knew house at Hogsmeande (and Remus and Tonks stayed at the house near the Grangers).
"You know that's probably more normal that they didn't grow up in the same house than it is strange," Ron pointed out.
"I wasn't talking about normal kind of strange ... I was talking about my kind of strange," Harry laughed. Though his life was definitely more normal than it had been in the last twelve years than it had been in his first sixteen, normal was still not a word he would used to describe himself.
"Daddy, Mum said it's time for the cake," the two were interrupted at that moment by Harry's eldest, James Sirius Potter.
"Well, we better not miss that," Ron said as he lifted up the now giggling boy and Harry quickly followed them.
As he got closer he could see that Ginny was leviating the cake so that it was floating towards the table, and as soon as the cake was safely on the table, Harry wrapped an arm around her pulling him closer to him.
"You ready for the singing," she asked him, amused that he still enjoyed everyone singing for his birthday. He nodded his head and then looked out at everyone that was surrounding them. His boys were sitting at the table eyeing the cake like they wanted to put their hands into it before the end of the song, and judging by Rose's (Ron and Hermione's little girl) expression she was going to prevent the boys from doing that if the even think of trying (or she was planning on beating the boys to the cake, it was hard to tell with her). Then there was Sirius, Emmeline, Remus and Tonks, who were all behind him on this left. On his right was his dad, who never fully recovered from what happened to him but was able to live an almost normal life. Though he had never been able to move on from the feeling he had for his late wife, he was very content with the friendship that he was made (both before and after the incident). Next to his dad, were the two best friends that he could have ever asked for (who seemed to be bantering over something and enjoying every minute of it).
As he thought of all this he couldn't help but think about the image he had seen so long ago in a mirror one Christmas holiday at Hogwarts. This was the family that he had always wanted. And yet it was so much more than that. For at the time he hadn't known that the Weasleys would be his family too. Nor did he know that his 'dads' would one day find the perfect woman for them and become happily married. He hadn't known that he would have two brothers nor that he would have so many nieces and nephews. Not to mention the image hadn't included all of his closest friends that he knew were part of his family. With that being said, Harry was still pretty sure if he had ever saw the Mirror of Erised again, all he would see in it now was his own reflection.
A/N: First I just want to say that I'm not sure where the idea came to end the story like this, but at some point I remembered what I had made Harry see in the Mirror of Erised and showing that that image had come true would be a nice way to end this story. Hopefully it came out okay.
