It began in the library. It ought not to have happened there, due to the universal fact that all the reading rooms of the world are supposed to be home-free zones for the geeks, nerds and bookworms of the world, but like all rules this one was meant to be broken.

It began in the library, occurred in the library and it remained within the library.

It happened amid the rows of lofty bookshelves which stretched their towers upwards like mountain peaks into the unreachable ceiling. It happened upon the soft red velvet floors and within the carrels in the Restricted Section. Which was all apt, of course. Theirs was truly a forbidden love, a torrid romance of blazing passion constantly in need of being contained lest they risk exposure.

And they just could not--under any circumstances--let that happen.

Quidditch Captains and Prefects didn't get along because of conflicting interests. Add the dislike of those two positions with the fact that they were Gryffindor and Slytherin and you found it equalled to a very sincere and true-hearted malicious loathing. This was a situation that needed to be kept under hush.

What better place than the library, then, to have this secret romance? Nothing beat the silence and seclusion of Irma Pince's fortress.

And if the strict Librarian ever noticed the lovesick teenage boys between the bookshelves in their normal positions--Marcus pressing his thick frame along the line of Percy's willowy form, shoving him roughly into the bookcase with his wrists pinned above his head, glasses askew and crimson hair rumpled by every unplanned caress--she never whispered a single word of it to another soul.

Percy Weasley and Marcus Flint fell in love inside their own tiny world, losing themselves slowly in every tender-lipped kiss, every violent whisper and passionate hand squeeze, every glaze-eyed look of desire. They fell in love with the kind of passion which still ignites the blood to boil long decades after the fires have been extinguished. They fell in love and stayed in love for three whole years before they disbanded with quick embraces and promises to visit one another, both knowing these vows were as hollow and empty as their hearts.

Never in their lives did they see each other again.

Marcus's body would be discarded like rubbish inside the bushes of the Forbidden Forest after the war; it would never be seen or found by any living being.

Percy would go on to become a high ranking official under the wing of Kingsley Shacklebolt, occasionally sparing a thought or two to the man who taught him how to love, but he would never try to make contact nor would he ever get wind of Marcus's disappearance and supposed death.

But amid the bookcases and hallways of the Hogwarts library there would forever more remain the memories of a forbidden love, remembered with sweet kindness by an ancient Librarian who had watched many love affairs throughout the generations begin and end within her safe-haven. Concealed and forbidden, hidden away from all the other eyes of the world but eternally remembered within her heart.

THE END
