When Steven woke, he had no idea of his surroundings. It was as though he had fallen asleep in one place and awoken in another, like had often happened when he was younger and fell asleep in car journeys and his mum had carried him into the house. But this wasn't his bedroom. It was too clean, for a start, and there were other people wandering around.

Steven stood up and took in his location. It looked like Cardiff Bay, but as he walked over to the water, he could see a man walking on it. That wasn't the strangest thing, either. There were no cars or planes, and everyone seemed happy. It was like they were all in heaven.

Heaven. No, he told himself, he couldn't be dead. But the last thing he felt was pain, and it wouldn't have surprised him if he had passed out because of it. But to actually die? His mother wouldn't let him. She would have done anything to prevent his death.

Steven noticed a smartly-dressed young man making his way towards him. The man sat down on the beach without speaking, and patted for Steven to join him. He did, apprehensively.

"Who are you? Where am I?"

"I'm Ianto Jones. You're Steven, am I right? A relation of Jack Harkness?"

Steven nodded. "He's my uncle. How do you know?"

"You've got the look about you."

"Where am I?" Steven repeated. "Where's Jack? Where's my mum?"

"This is heaven," Ianto told him. "I don't know what happened to you, but you've ended up here."

"I died? But what about my mum? Is she ok?"

"Let's have a look for her." Ianto stood up and walked into the sea, leading Steven by the hand. The image in the water blended to show one of Alice and Jack, screaming tearfully at one another.

"Why's Uncle Jack angry with Mum?" Steven asked.

Ianto shrugged, and took a step forward. The image changed to one of Alice at home, sitting on Steven's bed. "She misses you."

"I miss her too."

"I know. But I'll look after you, don't you worry. Tosh and Owen have plenty of room in their place."

"Who?"

"A couple of friends of mine and Jack's. They died last year, so they've had time to sort things out. Me and Lisa live there as well. And Jack drops in occasionally, though not for long. You can use him to pass messages to your mum, if you like. Let her know you're alright."

Steven smiled, and turned to walk out of the water. "I will be alright, won't I? You're not going to leave me or anything?"

"Of course not. We're a team here. Me, Lisa, Owen, Tosh and you. And nobody's going anywhere. I promise."
