WELL HELLO THERE!

Long time no see, friends! It's been what, almost TEN YEARS?

Can we take a moment to appreciate that? This story was one of my first stories on this site, my BABY, and I just read through it and it brought tears to my eyes because AWWWW. The tears were both from nostalgia and from cringing too hard, mind you, but STILL.

En fin, I've found my muse for Avatar hyped beyond hype lately and I've decided to do a full re-write of this story on AO3. I'll be keeping in the bits I really enjoy, because contrary to my belief, I had some beautiful literary moments back when I was 15/16 and I want to keep the same magic but with a slightly more mature feel to it. What better time to do it than now, when I'm the same age as Sara Mason? My goal is to finish this re-write within a year, so I can say that I'm still 25 when I finish posting all the edits haha.

If you're a fan of this story and want to check out how my writing has improved/changed over the years in regards to how I see Sara's story/character playing out, feel free to go back to the beginning of this story and read the 3 edited chapters, and then go follow the rest of the story on AO3 (it'll use the same title, so just search that/my username Sapphire_Raindrop on AO3 and you'll find it!).

I'm keeping the original rest of the story on here for those of you who love it, because even if I want to edit it I respect that some of you love this version and so for you guys I'll leave it up on FF.

For those of you who might be thinking "The story is great, why fix it?":

I've never stopped thinking about the ending arc to this story, about how meh it was compared to all that I had planned, and thinking about all that made me think about the characters/plot and how much MORE I could have done with them. So as much as you might dislike the new direction, know that it's something I need to do for myself as an author, to look back at this story and be able to say: "I took that story from magical and whimsical to something dark and rich and real, while keeping the magic in there."

Who knows if I'll fully succeed, but that's my goal.

I'll be positing the edits in parts, probably 3-4 chapters at a time, so as to give you guys more than just one edited chapter at a time to read. As I mentioned up there, head over to AO3 if you're interested in seeing where the rest of the story goes after the initial edits—I'm putting the first 3 chapters on Fanfiction to give old readers a chance to decide whether they want to stick to the tried but true or give my new version a shot.

No matter what you guys decide in terms of reading the new version of staying with the old, know that I love and appreciate every single one of you! Your support of this story was what gave me the courage to keep going with fanfiction—thank you thank you thank you!

Love,

~Sapphire
