Larten found that when talking to women, namely vampire women, that one must be careful what they said. One wrong word could get you a smack across the head, or a punch in the arm, and then they would ignore you for days on end. Oh yes, you must be careful when communicating with women.

In fact earlier this week while he was spending time with Gavner he had said something regarding women that he now regretted. He had not been talking directly to Arra Sails, he had just addressed women in general as not being as apt fighters as men. She, however, had taken personal offense at his words, choosing to become infuriated and hereby ignore him.

He sighed. He was not sure why she was so upset. He had not meant her, he knew for a fact she could kick his ass at anything she wanted. They had both passed there trials with ease, making them equals, so no, he hadn't meant her specifically. He had actually been referring to the only other female vampire currently located at Vampire Mountain. She was pathetic.

The other vampire, who's name he could not recall, could not even fight one of Mika Ver Leth's half-vampire assistant. She had been defeated within moments of the battle, causing Larten to make the comment that he now so bitterly regretted.

Larten walked the corridors alone, Gavner was sleeping, and, of course, Arra was choosing to ignore him. He missed her, although he didn't know quite sure why, a lot. It was early in the morning, about 6:30. As far as he knew no other vampire's were even awake. He could not sleep as his feelings of guilt bothered him like a festering sore. He needed to make amends with her, but how to do that?

He stepped on to an abandoned balcony to sort out his thoughts. Closing the door softly, and stepping out into the still-dark skies of the December morning, he decided that he had never seen anything so peaceful. He sighed once more and closed his eyes to think. His thoughts filled with various images of her.

"Larten?" The loud question jerked him out of his peaceful thoughts. Jerking around to see who it was, he could barely contain his surprise.

"Can I help you?" He replied, staring into her storm-grey eyes.

"Why are you out here?" Arra asked, confusion mixing with her features.

"I could ask you the same thing." He replied simply, unable to hold her gaze.

"I've been out here almost all night," She explained, rising to her feet to face him. "why did you say what you did, earlier?"

"I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the other girl, she probably couldn't even beat Gavner." She smiled at that, but quickly hid her smile behind her hand.

"You still shouldn't say things like that Crepsley. It's rude, and very unlike you," she pointed out. She turned to leave. He grabbed her arm turning her to face him, inches from his face.

"Does this mean you forgive me?" The air crackled like lightning between them.

"I'll think about it," she whispered.

"I can live with that," He answered, his voice barely audible. He leaned in quickly to kiss her, purely on impulse. She stiffened in surprise but soon melted into it, twisting her fingers into the curly orange hair at the back of his head. Everything felt right at that moment, and they stayed like this for a long time.

When they finally did pull apart Arra spoke. "Well Larten, I forgive you this time." He smiled and before grasping her hand and turning to watch the sun rise steadily over the mountains.
