Next chapter is up and ready to go! Once again, thank you for sticking with me even though as usual I am a terrible person! The chapters are short but they pack mighty punches!
Previously:
"But who shot down your shuttle? Who could have possibly knew that you were genetically altered except—"
"—her parents," a soft voice came from behind them.
They both whirled around and froze as phasers were trained on them. Olivia's eyes were wide with shock.
"Mom? Dad?" she whispered.
Her mother smiled at her. But it was not a kind smile. It was threatening.
"We don't want a scene. You will come with us and we may spare the life of the good doctor at your side," she said her voice unchanging.
It was cold and empty.
"Y-You shot down my shuttle?" Olivia questioned, hurt and betrayal only two of the vast emotions she was experiencing at the moment.
"All will be answered when you get on our ship, Olivia. Do it now or I will shoot him," she said and Olivia looked at Bones, who looked back at her.
Then she slowly walked towards her parents. Once she was within reaching distance, her father grabbed and cuffed her. Her mother looked at her and then smirked.
"Let's go. Kill the doctor," she said and Olivia's eyes widened.
"No!" she screamed and hit into her father as he shot at Bones.
It missed him by a hairline.
"Run Leonard!" she yelled and he did.
"Time to go," her mother said and her dad knocked her out and slung her over his shoulder.
"We will not have much time before he warns the others," she spoke as they boarded the ship.
"I have a plan b," the father said pressing a button.
The mother smirked as a few ships down the line blew up, causing a heavy distraction.
"I love it when you think ahead, dear," she complimented as the door closed.
In Space...Some Hours Later...
Olivia sat in her cell quietly. She hadn't attempted to speak to them and they hadn't attempted to speak to her since she woke up.
Silence.
Finally, her mother pulled up a chair by her cell and made herself comfortable.
"You've grown into quite the woman, Olivia," he mother mused.
Olivia stared at her mother blankly.
Silence.
"The last time I saw you, you were dying. Your wounds were ghastly. There was no way you should have survived the fall let alone the actual crash. I should have known your genetic alterations would develop, making you stronger than the average human. Strong enough to survive on the planet Qo'noS. Strong enough to kill Klingon. Strong enough to escape us until now. We knew the only way to get to you would be to use Khan. Our guns for hire failed in killing you, even with the equipment we provided them. Decades away from those advanced weapons you are. And still they couldn't kill you. Khan was our last resort. Let loose a monster to catch one," she paused.
"A monster you created. Why would you let me live this long? Why kill me now and not at birth?" Olivia asked upset.
Silence.
"Your father and I had Rafe and were told we could have no more children. I was devastated. Being a scientist, I wanted my children to carry out my legacy. It was a chance encounter that the 72 genetically altered humans were sent to my department in Starfleet. One stood out to me above the rest, even Khan. She was beautiful and intelligent. She was everything I could want in a daughter and we spoke often, exchanging stories and such. And so one day she offered me her blood, to help me advance my studies. Instead, I injected myself with it. It cured my debilitation and I was pregnant soon after," she stopped.
Silence.
"You were a beautiful baby. Perfect in every way. I loved you dearly. We had left you home to do a short exploration mission. It was only to be a few days at most. I missed you terribly. On the second day we were sucked into a black hole. When the turbulence settled we flew back to Earth...but it wasn't the Earth we knew. It was ravaged with war. It was dying. Everyone we knew and loved was dead. We found someone who so graciously filled us in. Klingons had broken the treaty and attacked us. In order to fight them, you released Khan and the 71 other genetically altered humans. We were victorious against the Klingons, but Khan and his people turned on us. You start a war that destroys the world. We were in denial for a long time. We found a way to get back home, got you and Rafe, and went to Vulcan. We decided to hide you from your fate. But it wasn't working. Everything was falling into place for you. So we left, detached from you. We waited for the right moment and then we struck. It was supposed to be a quick, painless death for the good of our world. But you lived," she said as if relieving it.
Her eyes were distant, as if watching it all play out again.
"We had never calculated in the fact that you may have survived. We were stunned and horrified. We lost our humanity in doing what we did. But it was for the good of the world, we reasoned," she paused.
"But fate is a strong entity. You found your way back to Starfleet. You were back on the path to dooming us all. Until now," she stopped and finally looked at her daughter.
"You're stronger than either of us gave you credit for. Your will to live is unlike anything I've ever witnessed. It matters not now, but I am truly sorry for everything you've been through," she whispered and then stood.
"You have until tomorrow to decide how you would like to die. I cannot grant you your life, but I can grant you your death of choice," she said and walked off.
Olivia leaned against the wall and finally let the tears come.
The Next Day...
Olivia hadn't slept. She wasn't even sure if her eyes had closed once during the hours that had passed. The ship was eerily silent and she wondered if she and her parents were the only people on it. She took a moment to look around her cell. There was a bowl of water and a plate of bread and a sticky substance. Her eyes shifted seeing a shadow out of the corner of her eye. Her father came to the bars and smiled weakly at his daughter.
"Have you decided?" he asked and she scratched her head.
"Is that all you have to say to me?" she asked and his composure faltered.
"Why can't we just get rid of Khan and the others? Then I won't be destined to release anyone. Why aren't you looking into other ways? Why aren't you trying to save me?!" she shouted at him, standing up.
She saw him visibly flinch.
"Olivia—"
"—you blew up my shuttle! Innocent people were on it! Innocent lives, including an unborn one!" she yelled at him and his eyes widened.
"Unborn?" he repeated.
"You killed your own grandchild!" she snapped, making him blanch.
Silence.
"I was pregnant and I was happy and I was starting a life with people I loved! I was going to have a family! Why the hell would I want to release a cryogenic super soldier from his frozen prison?! Why would I think that would benefit anyone?!" she roared, becoming angrier.
Silence.
Her father stared at her wide eyed. He looked horrified. Olivia wiped the tears from her cheeks.
Silence.
Her father turned and left abruptly. Olivia stared at where he stood, shocked.
"Come back! Dad! Come back!" she screamed, gripping onto the bars tightly.
Suddenly, her mother appeared and she gasped and moved back.
"You were with child when you were on that shuttle?" he mother asked quickly.
She no longer held a stern look. Now her features were strained, fearful. Olivia managed a shaky nod. Her mother frowned slightly, in thought.
"That's not possible," she murmured to herself.
Silence.
Olivia's mother grabbed her head and closed her eyes.
"What have we done?" she choked out as tears began to trickle down her cheeks.
Olivia stared at the woman before her. Then she grabbed the bars tightly.
"You got the wrong me, mother. You failed again," she hissed and the mother covered her face as the ship suddenly rocked violently.
