"Do you have to write in that damn thing all the time?" asked Billy, puffing irritably on a cigarette.

"Wouldn't want to forget a good idea."

"No, no, I understand; the paper's much more important…"

Martin flipped the notebook shut, exasperated. "I am trying to earn a living."

"Then get rid of Mary. The amount you spend on upkeep is ridiculous."

"Nonsense." He caught sight of himself in the mirror, subconsciously performing Miss Sunshine's trademark eyebrow raise. "I've become quite attached to her – besides, I look good in furs."

"I like you much better as a man," Billy said firmly.
