It seemed like easy enough prey. Sure, I was outnumbered four to one, but I'd handled more than that before. I had been following this group for a few days; I like to get to know my prey before I attack it, makes me feel like a female Pyroar stalking the Kalos plains. The group I was currently watching consisted of two boys and two girls. From what I could tell they all seemed to be dating each other, gross. I had only seen two Pokémon so far, a Jolteon and a Bellossom. Both seemed pretty strong, but I knew the exactly how to put them out like a light.
I almost felt sorry for them in that moment before I struck, they all seemed so happy, too bad. Everything in life is survive or die, and that night I intended to survive.
The four teens had stopped in the middle of an open field, smart of them, wide and flat enough to be able to see any approaching thief, but of course I'm no ordinary thief. The group surrounded the camp fire and set up sleeping bags with their backpacks set in front of the tall blond and the Pokémon nestled beside their trainers in front of the fire. As soon as they all fell asleep I made my move. I was decked in my usual black pants and shirt. As I made my way across to their bags the blond boy started to stir. I quickly dropped to the ground, not even daring to breathe. The boy stood up and made his way towards the woods, I assume to use the "toilet." I knew he would't be gone long, so I had to think fast. I quickly but quietly stalked over to their backpacks and was able to get two on my back and the other two hanging off of my arms.
Without a second thought I ran in the opposite direction the boy had gone. I ran as fast as I could, which is pretty fast, may I just say. No one had ever caught me before, sure I've had a few close shaves but I've always been able to Buizel my way out of it. Then I heard it, it was faint at this distance, but I heard the distinct sounds of yelling and barking. There was no way I could outrun a Jolteon, I would have to fight it, which was not an actual option. I heard the rustle of leaves behind me, I froze. Even Jolteon aren't that fast.
I took two deep breaths. I knew the pressure point that would knock it out, I just needed to make sure I was the one that struck first. A bark and a growl. I crawled under a bush, the trees around didn't have low enough branches for me to climb to the safety above. Then I saw it, them actually. They had three freaking Jolteon?! They must have been in their pokeballs, dammit! I should have followed them longer, made sure I saw all of their Pokemon before I tried to steal four freaking backpacks, slow down my movement, and basically guarantee failure. Hunger can make one desperate.I slowed my breathing to a near stop. I watched as three noses hit the dirt searching for my scent, luckily I'd had the good sense to rub myself down with mud to disguise my human smell. I grabbed a nearby rock and threw it into the adjacent brush. The Jolteon all looked up at the noise and bolted towards it.
I counted to ten before I crawled out of the bush and took off running in the opposite direction, searching for a tree low enough for me to hide in. A few more seconds and I heard a trio of howls. My trick was up. I had no choice but to try and fight them, one on three. I flung the backpacks against a tree and struck a fighting stance. All three leapt out of the forest at once and immediately set their sights on me. They obviously had orders not to harm me or they would have attacked already, I grinned, big mistake.
I brought a roundhouse kick into the head of the nearest one. It was dazed but shook it's head and growled, swaying just slightly. Now they had an idea of who they were dealing with. The small pack split up and tried to surround me. I quickly backpedaled until I was against a cliff and knew they couldn't get behind me. I drew a pebble from my hip bag and threw it into a soft spot in the nearest Jolteon's head. The rock hit true and a Jolteon went to the ground, unconscious. The other two quickly dropped their frightening approach and leapt for me. I made for a dive and rolled under them, the two Jolteon rammed their heads into the rock that used to be behind me. One went down, the other staggered and shook off it's injury. It's stark black eyes met my blue. I slowly reached back into my bag and grabbed the biggest pebble I could grab hold of. I could swear the Jolteon was actually grinning at me.
I froze. Then the Jolteon that had rammed it's head into the rock wall started to get back up. I couldn't stay here, the backpacks were behind me to my left, I could easily grab one and make a break for it if my aim is good enough. I lobbed the pebble at the Jolteon, it dodge out of the way, which is what I was hoping for as I threw another pebble smack into the space between it's eyes. It fell, dazed, but conscious. I snagged the smaller of the bags and pushed my legs as hard as I could.
I had made it a couple hundred feet when the two Jolteon were on my tail again. I decided to hang a left into a part of the woods I wasn't familiar with, hoping it's darker canopy would help keep the Jolteon off her trail. I glanced over my shoulder to see if they were pursuing and managed to trip over an overgrown root. I fell with a huge 'thud'. I heard barks, they heard my fall. I tried to get back up but my foot was stuck in the root. I struggled to move my body so I could free my foot, reaching back to feel for the root I touched fur and my blood ran cold, a golden-white tail with a soft orange tip was wrapped around my ankle. I had tripped on a Ninetales. My instincts took over at that point, all I could think was that I had to survive. I thrashed and scratched to get the tail off of my foot but it was too strong, too determined. The tail tightened and pulled me into the air hanging upside down. The tail turned my body to stare into two bright red spheres peering out from the dark woods. Since my legs couldn't move, my mouth began to run.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you, I swear! Please don't hurt me, my family will be crushed. I'm only 10!" I lied about my family in the hopes of sympathy from the creature. I tried to say more but my lips became paralyzed. I started to shiver and broke out in a cold sweat. The Ninetales said nothing. I vaguely heard someone approach but I couldn't turn my head to see at that point. I knew it was the Jolteon chasing me I heard a bark, and knew they had seen the Ninetales when I heard a whimper. Apparently Ninetales like an audience because it decided to start the show.
A spark of blue energy ran across the tail and into my leg. I screamed, the pain was immense. I started to spasm, unable to control any of my limbs. More sparks began to appear across its tail, they grew until the whole tail was glowing with blue energy. Tears were streaming down my face and all I could do was heave deep sobs since my voice hurt from screaming. I felt a bone crack, the pain hardly even mattered at that point, I wanted to throw up. A silky voice that wasn't mine entered my mind.
"First off, we need to make you the right size." More bones started to crack and splinter, then they just vanished, leaving flopping skin and appendages, slowly the skin began to shrink and surround a new bone structure. "Next we need to change that skin." My skin became perfectly smooth, all of my hair slid off of my head like it had decided that it no longer belong. My skin seemed like plastic, then it started to shine, slowly changing to a sky blue color. "And that face just won't do." My jaw cracked and part of my face pushed forward, out from my head. My now bald head narrowed and my neck shrank towards the rest of my body. "And now for the dressing on our little pet." My ears elongated and pushed out from my head, a horn thrust painfully through my forehead. A white collar burst from my neck. A tail sprouted from the rest of my body and the end separated itself into two fins. Then my spine rose out of me, literally, the white bone shone in the light, I heard the distinct sound of vomit hitting the ground. The bone changed from white to a dark blue and turned into ridges reaching from my tail to the back of my head. Dark blue skin rose to connect the spikes with a plastic-like webbing.
"Thus our show comes to an end. Please DO NOT come back." The tail finally released me and disappeared into the trees. I slammed into the ground, conscious only due to some lingering effect from the cruel magic of the Ninetales. When I was finally able to look up to see a group of people staring down at me, I felt soft, comforting arms envelop me, and I was blissfully released from consciousness.
