Scratches: Chapter 13
Disclaimer: I don't own True Blood or Southern Vampire Mysteries. I only write this out of fan love. However, if anyone finds out that fictional characters come to life, please let me know. I would love a Viking hug!
THIRD PERSON POV
Sookie felt as if she were floating. The last thing she remembered was seeing Eric in massive amounts of excruciating pain. "Our warrior has suffered much. He has been tormented by the danger he believes he has put you in. He has not realized that he has been cursed by the unknown force after you. He will slowly begin to become mortal. He will also begin to forget who he is and who he was before he became Vampire. You must not let this happen. Both of your futures are intertwined." Sookie opened her eyes to see a woman dressed in a light sky blue gown. "Who are you? Where am I?" The woman looked at Sookie and smiled. "We are in what the Vikings called Vahalla. I am known as Freya. I knew Eric when he was human. Even then I knew he would live to do great things. Since having met you, I now understand why Eric is in love with you." Sookie stood, shocked by what the Norse goddess had told her. "What do you mean? Eric isn't in love with me! Why would you say that?" Sookie paced back and forth as she spoke, not realizing the scenery was changing to look more like the inside of a Viking hall. Freya sat down in one of the chairs that had appeared. "I have been watching over Eric since I had met him as a human. He is a special man. It is the things he has done for you that you do not know about that reveal his true feelings. He would do anything for you, give anything to you because of his feelings for you. All you have to do is ask it of him."
Sookie still didn't believe Freya. She just couldn't believe that Eric Northman, the vampire that seemed to live just to be the thorn in her side, was actually in love with her. "Are you sure we're thinking of the same Eric Northman? The one I know doesn't seem to show his feelings in any way!" Freya laughed as she motioned for Sookie to sit in the other chair that had appeared earlier.
After a moment of sitting, Freya looked at Sookie and continued. "Eric is not the kind of man who wears his heart on his sleeve. At least, not any longer. The only people who have seen the true Eric are his maker, Godric, and his two children, Anastasia and Pamela. Though Anastasia has since passed on from your world." Sookie was again shocked by the information that Freya had just provided her. "He had another child? I never never knew...How did she die?" Sookie asked, and then quickly apologized, realizing her question might be considered rude. Freya just lifted her hand as if to say her curiosity was normal.
"It was during the Inquistion. Anastasia and Eric were staying in a small village. Eric let Anastasia go out to feed and to explore the surrounding area. Instead, Anastasia fell for a trap and was caught feeding. She was sentenced to death by burning at the stake and was judged to be a witch. That same day, the villagers burned Anastasia to death. Eric felt every burn, every flame that touched her, but he was completely helpless. It was too close to dawn for him to do anyting for her. Once darkness fell, he went searching for her...but all he found were ashes where the stake had been." Freya paused, noticing the tears on Sookie's face. "Do you wish for me to continue?" Sookie nodded her head, knowing that she needed to learn more about Eric and why he was the way he was.
"Pamela had been visiting Godric during this time, so when they felt Eric's grief, they rushed to his side as quickly as possible. All that remained of the village where Eric and Anastasia had been staying were corpses and burnt huts. In the middle of what used to be the village, they found Eric, clutching a drawing of Anastasia, one of the few reminders of her that he had. Because of her death and his grief, Eric had gone on a rampage, destroying everything and everyone in sight. After that he seemed to close himself off to everyone except for Pamela and Godric. This is why he spoils Pamela, giving her anything she wants, no matter what it is. He fears losing her, as he lost Anastasia."
Sookie sat thinking over everything she had just been told. It explained why Eric was so protective of Pam and why he was so shut off, emotionally. "He also fears losing you, Sookie. You have come to mean so much to him and losing you would devastate him just as much as losing Anastasia did."
A/N: I apologize for the long wait. I actually had not realized how much time had passed since I last updated. Thanks to kinnik for alerting me to the fact! I am already working on the next chapter and will try to make up for the shortness of this chapter by making the next super long! Peace, Love and True Blood!
