The End

XXXVI. Accident

It happened suddenly. They had been walking somewhere—she couldn't recall where with what happened—and she had been thinking too deeply and stepped off the curb without noticing.

"Hey!" She heard Yuusuke yell. And she heard and felt a car rush by her, just barely missing her. She couldn't tell what kind because all she could see was him. His broad chest, green jacket, the lines around his mouth and how warm his arms were wrapped around her.

And she must've looked stupid, seeing him without seeing. But he understood. All he said was, "You're so damn stupid, Kagome."

XXXVII. Unspoken

She nodded, awareness coming back to her. Because she was, and in so many different ways.

"Yuusuke…" And she thought he knew what she meant, because the lines around his mouth disappeared in favor of lifting into his smirk.

"You know, I think you still have to answer my question."

Kagome looked at him. "Which one?" Because there had been so many questions, but really only one that mattered and that she never really answered. "You never answered mine either."

"If I was sane, do you think I'd still be asking about this question?"

She snorted despite the entire situation.

XXXVIII. Unnoticed

The only question he asked that mattered had been years ago, and she avoided the answer as best she could. They went into it on unsure ground, never fully knowing where the other stood and knowing that they couldn't have each other's full heart at that moment. But that was so long ago, and this was now.

She loosened her grip on his forearms to place her hands on his chest. They were people of action more than words. And she was sure about her answer this time.

So she smiled, uncaring of the people walking by them without noticing.

XXXIX. Simplicity

And she kissed him. It was quick and as simple and sure as her lips touching his. This time was different. This time they had nothing but themselves holding them back and she didn't want that anymore. She couldn't even remember why she was so against him after spending the last few months with him just as friends.

They were simple. They were easy. More than that, they were happy. And she could only remember being happy recently during the time she spent with him.

So was he, if how he kissed her in return was anything to go by.

XL. Future

"That wasn't so damn hard, was it." he said, so self-assured if his smirk was anything to go by.

Kagome huffed and finally pushed away from him, cheeks stained pink. "You just had to ruin it by speaking."

He laughed and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her back into his warmth. "Yeah, well, I wasn't the one who took years to finally give a meaningful answer to a question. Next time I ask you one, don't take so long or we'll be too old to enjoy it."

This time, Kagome smiled at the thought of a future together.

I may not always remember to say it, but you, dear readers, are the amazing ones and just thank you all.
