It was almost midnight; so needless to say, Booth was surprised when there was a knock at his door. Throwing the covers off, he padded down the hallway, dressed in only drawstring pants, to answer the door. When he saw Brennan standing there, he began wishing that he had stopped to put a shirt on.

"Bones, what are you doing here. It's almost midnight," Booth said, stepping aside as Brennan walked in without waiting for an invitation.

"I, I couldn't sleep," Brennan said. She sounded rattled and that was Booth's first clue that something was wrong.

"Bones, what's wrong?" Booth said, snagging a shirt from the laundry basket that was sitting in the hallway that he had left there. Brennan sat down on the couch and Booth sat down beside her.

"Well, I know this sounds silly, but, I keep having nightmares," Brennan said, refusing to meet Booth's eyes.

"About what?" Booth asked gently. He knew it was a huge thing for her to be here, telling him this, so he was patient. She didn't answer for a while, just continued looking down at the floor. Finally, she spoke.

"About," she began. "About losing you." Silence followed that, and Booth didn't have a response. "Ever since you were in that coma, I've been having nightmares about losing you. Sometimes it's the same dream, over and over, like a bad movie on repeat in my head. Sometimes they're different, mostly they're the same."

"How," Booth swallowed. "How do I die in your nightmares?"

"You get shot, by a suspect. It's always a different face but we're always in the same place," Brennan said. "You… you step in front of me. Like you did that night at the karaoke bar…" Brennan trailed off. Instinctively Booth grabbed her hand and squeezed it.

"Bones, I promise you that I'm not going anywhere soon," he said.

"Booth, you can't promise that. You don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, or the next day, it's impossible," Brennan said, her voice close to hysterics. Booth reached and pulled her face so she was looking at him. He leaned in, so close that their noses were almost touching.

"Temperance," he said. She looked right into his eyes, which was what he had been aiming for. "Sure, we may not know what's going to happen tomorrow, but what I do know, is that I will always be there for you, no matter what."

Silence

"Booth, could I stay here tonight?" Brennan finally asked. Booth took a deep breath and nodded. He lead her down the hallway to the bedroom. She crawled into bed, and he climbed in behind her. He was hesitant to touch her at first, but she snuggled right up against him. He slowly placed her arms around her and she sighed with contentment. He placed a kiss on top of her head.

"Good night, Bones," he whispered.

"Night, Booth," she mumbled.

Neither of them woke again that night. They knew that they were safe in each other's arms.
