A.N: I couldn't help writing this when it came to my mind. It's a bit too short for my liking. I might lengthen it if something comes up. This short one-shot starts about two years after the manga.

Inuyasha sighed contently as he watched the sun set from his tree and the first star appeared. He bounced a comfortable weight on his lap slightly, humming a song kagome taught him a couple weeks ago.

"Golden slumber kiss your eyes," he murmured softly, "Smiles await you when you rise..."

He glanced down in his arms to find his baby girl sleeping soundly. He brought her closer to his chest protectively as the fall winds blew gently, using his sleeves as a blanket to cover her.

"Sleep, pretty baby, do not cry," he continued quietly, "And I'll sing you a lullaby."

Lullabies always were the trick to get his baby to sleep and/or quiet down. Although he wasn't quite the singer, it still worked as well as kagome singing.

Inuyasha looked back up to the setting sun. A full year, he thought as he shook his head, A full year of traveling with her again and this happens. A smile grew on his lips at the memory of him finally telling his feelings for her. He still remember how nervous he was of taking care of a child.

Kagome sighed as she laid her head on her pillow, looking up at the ceiling while inuyasha joined her in bed.

Inuyasha kissed her cheek softly, his hand resting on her swollen belly. She smiled and kissed him back. "Kagome?"

"Hm?" she hummed as her fingertips brushed against his ear.

"I-I'm not sure if I'm ready for this," his thumb rubbed against her stomach as he avoided her eyes out of embarressment, "What if I'm not good enough?"

She kissed the tip of his nose with a giggle, "You'll be a great father, inuyasha."

He smiled slightly, "I don't know," he sighed as he rested his head above her heart, hearing the rhythmic beat, "I wish I knew what I have to do."

"It'll be easy for you," kagome said as she ran her fingers through his long hair, "Protect. Provide. And Love," she whispered, "Just like you always do."

Inuyasha sighed, lifting his head and kissed her forehead before lightly kissing her, "I'll be the best father he ever had."

"She," kagome corrected.

"He," inuyasha growled playfully.

"She."

"He," he silenced her with another kiss, "Whatever our child is, I'll do anything to make he- or she- happy."

"That's more like it."

How was she right? he thought as he looked down at the raven-head. Black ears were folded just like a newborn pup ontop her head with soft, thin raven-black hair that curled around her face. Kagome took the liberty of dressing her in a bright pink dress from her time and a diaper that saved him from having to do laundry too much.

A whimper snapped him out of his thoughts as he watched the baby stir. Her eyes opened to reveal dark gold.

"Hey," inuyasha smiled as she brought a fist to her mouth, "Awake now, sleepyhead?"

The baby gurgled around her fist in response, watching him with curious eyes.

He chuckled and held her close as he jumped down onto the floor, "Come on, mama's probably got something cooking right now," he said as he cradled his baby girl.

The sun has now set and stars shown brightly on them as inuyasha hummed the rest of the song.

"Care you know not, therefore sleep; While I watch over you do not weep," he whispered softly as the baby cooed, "Sleep, pretty loved one, do not cry, and I will sing... I will sing... I will sing a lullaby..."
