I am very sorry but after Mark Salling's death, I cannot bring myself to finish this story or write his character anymore.
The following are my notes for the last few chapters.
Chapter 37
- Jane is getting settled into university, studying and trying not to stress, and dealing with living in a dorm with so many other people nearby.
- She's friends with Akiko and goes with her as moral and emotional support for the university's theatre auditions. Akiko ends up with a leading role, so they go out to celebrate.
- Jane and Puck have a Skype date and try to keep their relationship going via long distance. [Rather Be by Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne]
- Jane's heading into an 8am class a few days later, thinking about how she needs to go back to Lima so she can cook more food up for Candy. (Due to the early start, Jane's also contemplating how much caffeine is considered normal consumption.)
- After forgetting to turn her phone to silent, Jane receives a call in the middle of class, much to her embarrassment and the annoyance of both students and the lecturer.
- The call is from Puck; he's heading to the hospital - Candy's been in an accident.
...
Chapter 38
- Everyone's heard the news and they're desperately trying to ring Jane to find out what's happened and if Candy's okay.
- Quinn drives like a maniac to get to Jane and drive her to Lima, since she's too shocked to do anything.
- Sarah crashed her car into a crowd while she was driving drunk; while she suffered only minor injuries, Candy's fighting for his life.
- Sarah goes to court facing charges of child neglect, driving under the influence, injuring people in the crowd, causing damage to city property, etc. [Stop me by Mark Ronson (Sarah)]
- Evidence is provided about Sarah's "parenting" and general behaviour - Bert and Carole; Trish from the pub 'Just Like Home'; library staff; more pub owners; grocery store clerks; waiters and waitresses, etc. The list becomes embarrassingly long and even Sarah knows she's not getting out of a jail sentence. (That doesn't stop her from trying to flirt with the judge anyway.)
- The jury deem Sarah guilty on all charges. The judge is disgusted by Sarah and grants Jane's request to be Candy's legal guardian, since "she's been a better guardian to Candon than their own mother".
Option 1: Candy dies
Option 2: Candy lives
...
Chapter 39
Option 1: Candy's funeral [Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls (Candy). Angel by Sarah McLachlan (everyone else)]
Option 2: Candy's recovering; Jane stays in Lima to look after him and defers her study, possibly indefinitely.
- Noah proposes to Jane [On bended knee by Boyz II Men (Noah)].
- Jane rejects him as it's a seriously bad time for him to propose (for either option). Her dreams are shattered, her life has been turned upside down and inside out, and she is nowhere near emotionally/physically/any other way ready for that kind of commitment. [When I was your man by Bruno Mars (Noah)]
Option 1: Jane holes herself up in the house, has weekly therapy sessions, and she throws out nearly everything that belongs to Sarah.
Option 2: Jane takes Candy to physical therapy, they both have weekly therapy sessions, and she throws out nearly everything that belongs to Sarah. Jane gets an online qualification to home-school Candy, but promises to make playdates with his friends from school.
...
Chapter 40
Option 1: Jane ignores everyone, doesn't realise the electricity and water have been shut off due to unpaid bills, and sleeps during the day. She's scared several neighbours who think the house is haunted. Noah's mother and Katie come to help her, feed her, get the electricity and water running again, etc.
Option 2: Candy's recovering slowly, and some days are better than others. He'll always walk with a limp, but Terrence bought him a walking stick which will adjust to his height as he gets taller, so Candy tries to use it more even though it hurts to walk.
- Noah's building the house he'd planned, and gives Jane as much time and space as she needs. They both miss each other when they're not busy/emotionally distraught. They eventually start dating again, though it's difficult for both of them as Candy's always there (either emotionally/mentally, or physically). Jane worries that they won't have anything in common, that they'll grow apart, that Candy is/was all that kept them together. [Treat me good by Bachelor Girl (Jane)]
- Jane and Noah go on a few more dates, go to therapy and work through their problems and worries together.
- Months later, Jane proposes to Noah [Bleeding love by Leona Lewis]
- He says yes.
...
Epilogue - Fifteen years later
- Jane and Noah are married and they have a daughter named Cordelia Candace (either CC or Cordy). [Home by Naughty Boy (Jane and Noah)]
Option 1: Jane and Noah celebrate Candy and his life every day in little ways and in a big way on his birthday. Until she went to school, Cordy never realised it was "weird" to go to a cemetery and sing to someone who was dead. Now that she's older, she still thinks it's a little weird, but she knows that her Uncle Candy was special and this is how her parents celebrate and grieve for him.
Option 2: Candy is in a relationship and living with Becky. He loves being an uncle to Cordy and spoils her whenever he can. Becky loves helping Cordy train for the cheerleading squad.
- Cordy celebrates her 10th birthday with family and friends. She gets lots of presents, Jane makes her favourite cake, and Noah gives Cordy the biggest piece of cake he can (he also smears frosting on her face; outrage and a food fight ensues).
- That night, Noah and Jane tuck Cordy into bed, and Noah sings Cordy to sleep. [Lullaby by Billy Joel]
- They're both happy, in love, and content with the way their lives have turned out; they both know that their lives would have been very different if they'd never met each other. [For good by the Wicked cast]

'Where are they now?' - Twenty years after graduating high school. [This is your life by Switchfoot]
Mouse: works in Lima's school library and teaches the special education children.
Puck: completed his business degree and is opening the third pool cleaning business in Ohio.
Katie: became a freelance writer and photographer. She works for a travel company and is off in Greece.
Mercedes: is a huge star in the music industry, and just received a Grammy award (presented by Beyoncé). Mercedes is in a relationship and she's happy.
Terrence: coaching the state team after a successful career in football; he kept the number that he had in high school - it was the number that Candy cheered him on in, and Terrence considers it to be his lucky number. He still prefers classical music, but sometimes listens to Beyoncé and will always listen and buy Mercedes' songs.
Kurt: married to Blaine (fashion designer); he's now a famous (and fabulous) fashionista who has his own TV show about life, fashion, singing, everything. His perfume actually made him famous before his singing, but that's fine by him. He's planning on getting Mercedes on his show sooner rather than later.
Finn: coaching football at Lima High School. He still sings in the shower.
Rachel: she's a Broadway star and her name's in lights. She's in a relationship with a man who knows how much her career means to her and supports her however he can.
Brittany: actually realised how smart she was/could be, and started her own business 'Knowledge is power' to educate people.
Santana: accountant at a major corporation, where she's head of the department now. Santana still loves singing and she's planning on proposing to Brittany.
Quinn: she's not with Josh anymore, but she's okay with that. Quinn's the marketing manager at Britt's business. Shelby sends her updates of Beth sometimes, and Quinn's considering adoption as her next stage in life.
Artie: his band became famous with a hit song, and then several more after that. Eventually, Artie went solo; he's releasing his fourth album this year and hoping to go platinum.
Tina: started off small with a supporting role in a TV show which ended up with an Emmy nomination. Tina then landed the role lead in a musical TV show where she did win an Emmy.
Matt: he was injured during college football and is now a sports commentator. He has two cats he rescued from a shelter.
Mike: famous hip-hop dancer, and a choreographer for 'So you think you can dance'. He's engaged to someone who makes him happy.
Mr. Schue and Emma: finally got married and they've had two kids. They both still work at Lima High where Mr. Schue still directs Glee club - they've won the last two years running - and he actually got his degree in Spanish so he can teach it properly. Emma's still the student counsellor, but has updated her skills in psychology and actually helps the teenagers more often than not. She's still phobic about dirt and mess, but having two children has lessened that fear somewhat.
Coach Sylvester: still coaches the Cheerios and still comes up with outlandish stories about things she's gone through (the latest is swine flu and malaria at the same time). She's agreed to get laundry done locally rather than in Europe. Sue only annoys Mr. Schue for the fun of it, and as she respects them for winning, she no longer actively tries to ruin Glee club. She's currently training Becky to take over for her when she retires. Sue visits her sister every year. (Option 1: she makes sure to visit Candy every year as well; she's positive that they're together wherever they are.)
Sarah: still rotting in prison.
