A/N: Super unashamed fluffiness ahead.

Two girls sit quietly in the moonlight, their legs dangling from the dock's edge. The low but constant chirping of crickets is the only noise as they allow the excitement of their evening to wear off. It doesn't surprise Carter that Rosie is the one to finally break the silence.

"So that was Homecoming."

The words were spoken so matter-of-factly that Carter couldn't tell what the other girl was thinking at all. She didn't seem to be showing her usual level of enthusiasm for such 'normal American teenager' things. "Yep. I'm just sorry that you didn't get to have the full Homecoming experience. General Kane kinda ruined things for you. It wasn't supposed to happen that way…"

"That was not the full experience? Pretty dresses, crowns, dancing, friends; what else is there?"

"Oh, you know… having a date, slow dancing…. Oh! And you didn't get your Queen dance thingy!"

Rosie raised a quizzical eyebrow, prompting further explanation.

"You're supposed to have a special slow dance after the crowning ceremony. It's like a tradition or something."

"I see. Well we can fix that right now!" Rosie reached for the small battery operated radio hanging on a peg above her with some life preservers.

"B-but," Carter sputtered in surprise, "it's supposed to be the King and Queen! You're supposed to get to dance with some cute, popular boy like Donny."

Both girls wrinkled their noses in disgust at the sound of his name and Rosie shook her head minutely. "I did not think you cared about such things?"

"I guess you're right."

"So then, dance with me?" Rosie rose gracefully from the dock and extended her hand in invitation.

Carter shrugged a little but took Rosie's hand as she scrambled to her feet. Quiet, tinny strains of music came from the old radio as the friends drew closer. Rosie pulled the taller girl in tightly and looked up to meet dark brown eyes. "Thank you, again, for what you did tonight."

"It's no big deal," Carter mumbled and glanced away shyly.

"It IS a big deal! I just wonder why you did it?"

"Well, you're my best friend and I-, I mean, I had to do something!"

Rosie smiled at her vehemence. She couldn't help but tease her flustered friend. "I guess that makes you my knight in shining armor."

"Psshhaw! Right, that's me, saving princesses at every turn. Wait! Don't knights get rewards when they slay the dragon?" Carter's eyes twinkled as she smiled hopefully.

"You are right. And I know just the thing." With that, Rosie lifted up onto her tiptoes and pressed her lips to Carter's in a chaste kiss. She lingered there for a long moment before resuming their dance.

Stunned, Carter swallowed thickly and whispered, "That's, um, quite a reward."

"I am not yet finished. You were VERY brave, after all!" Rosie laced her hands around the other girl's neck and leaned in closer to capture her lips in another, deeper kiss.
