"Tom" Helaine looked over at her lost love. His face was tear stained and he looked waxen and pale. She couldn't remember ever seeing him look so lost and broken. She was back now, and she was determined to make things better and to beg for forgiveness. Helaine was so sorry for what she had done if only she had tracked him down and demanded he talk to her. She should have gone to Hermione for support instead she ran away like a coward, so much for Gryffindor bravery.
"Tom…I'm so sorry". Helaine struggled to say but the pain was starting to trickle through the fog of nearly dying. She groaned as she tried to sit up, the pain in her lower body shot through her like a white-hot iron. She fell back to the bed and nearly cried from the shear agony she was now in.
"Don't move, your sutures are fresh, and you'll tear them out. Just lay still I'll give you something for the pain in a moment." Helaine looked to her left. Severus was there looking as grim as always. She was happy to see him she knew he'd save her and her baby. Helaine gasped her child should be here too she needed to see her child.
"Tom the baby … please I want to see my child." Tom looked at her and sighed.
"Helaine you need to rest you very nearly died, the children can wait." He said to her softly. Helaine didn't miss a beat though. He said children as in more than one, her heart was fit to burst.
"No Tom I need to see them now!" She demanded. Tom looked to argue but didn't want to upset her. With a flick of his wand two large bubbles came floating toward the bed. When they were right beside her another flick of the wand and she could see inside.
Two sleeping babies one bigger than the other however they were both tiny. Her children her beautiful babies.
"what are they?" She asked.
Tom pointed to the one closest to him. "This is our son he is healthy just a bit on the small side he was born here in the castle." Tom told her. Helaine could hardly look away from her little boy his eyes were closed so she couldn't see them. He had her dark hair and pale skin however his tiny features were all Tom.
"What's his name?" She looked up from her son to see Tom watching her.
"I haven't named him, I wanted to wait to see if…" He didn't finish his sentence, he looked down as his eyes filled with tears again. He didn't want to tell her that he wanted to wait to see if she would survive.
"I thought it would be best if waited until you were feeling better." He told her. Helaine looked back to her son. He was beautiful, her perfect little man. She knew instantly what his name should be.
"Tristan… his name is Tristan James Marvolo Riddle." Helaine said. Tom looked displeased.
"No not Marvolo, my son deserves better than the name of a degenerate old fool. Tristan James Riddle is perfect. Helaine nodded in agreement.
"Alright and who is this one?" Helaine asked pointing at the other baby, she knew this little life so well already. Their souls had traveled back together from the void.
"That is our daughter…Severus says she will need more care. She is tiny but strong". Tom told her. Helaine studied her daughter, watching intently at the rise and fall of her little chest. Helaine knew she would survive her little girl had some fight in her. Her little face was turned toward her and Helaine could see herself looking back, although her little girl had inherited her Grandmothers brilliant red locks.
"Harmonia Lillian Merope Riddle. Before you object I met her…your mother. I can't really explain it I was some place else a place where magical people go on their journey to the afterlife. I met her there she wanted me to tell you something." Helaine tried to explain. Tom looked at her utterly confused.
"She said she was sorry and that she forgives you. She also wanted you to know she loves you and that you are her greatest achievement." Tom looked at her with a look of awe and disbelief.
"You spoke to my mother? How…" Tom was on the verge of a break down both mentally and physically. The culmination of almost loosing Helaine and his daughter mixed with the weeks of sleep deprivation were enough to break even the strongest of men. However, the knowledge that his mother somehow still existed in some way was enough to push him over the edge. Tom felt the weight of it all crash down on him. He stood up from Helaine's bedside and turned away.
"You and the children need to rest you have all been through a lot today." Tom said as he made his way to the infirmary doors. He needed to find a quite place to think. He was angry. After everything that happened he was in turmoil. He finally had her back with him, she had also given him two beautiful children. They were all safe back with him, but he was angry. He didn't understand why he felt this way and he didn't want to take his ire out on Helaine after everything she had been through she didn't deserve that.
"Tom please don't go. I know your angry I can see it and its all my fault. I'm so sorry Tom I should have come to you I never should have left. I was so scared Tom." Helaine tried to explain. Tom was frozen in place his heart and his head at war with each other. He didn't know how to feel he wanted to hold her close and also scream at her for leaving. He needed to work out these feelings away from her even though it pained him to be away from her for even a second, Tom knew he had to work out the dark thoughts in his head.
"I'm sorry Helaine I just need a moment…please try and get some rest and Ill see you in the morning." Tom told her as he hurried out of the infirmary. He didn't know where he was going as his feet lead him deeper and deeper into the castle. Before he knew it, he was in the dungeon. Suddenly an idea struck him, he had just acquired a red headed bastard. Who better to take his frustrations out on then the piece of filth that had almost stolen his family away. With a look of pure delight Tom entered the dugeons.
