End
The full moon towered over the desert sand. The 2 humans were staring at the sky. They knew their time was up. The humming of a helicopter was breaking the silence of the night. It was still far away; dust was rising at the horizon, between the mountains. They still had a few minutes. Nowhere to hide, nowhere to run. They had strayed away from the highway. The Seekers were after them, and they couldn't get away.
All those months of effort, gone. Run, run, but you can't hide from your own family. The other 30 got captured. Seekers tried to break them – a few succeded. The rest, deemed as unusable hosts, were destroyed. That thought brought tears to her eyes. That thought hardened his face. The last 2 humans on Earth, awaiting their death.
He scooped closer to her. She was so distracted that she didn't notice him until she felt his heat. She lifted her head and looked him in the eyes. The helicopter was very loud now, and they barely heard themselves say "I love you". As their lips joined, they bit down on the pills. A sour taste entered their mouths. He held the gun behind his head, and squeezed the trigger.
But no sound came.
'S**t' escaped his mouth, as he quickly loaded a bullet into the weapon. The helicopter was so close that the light reflected from her silvery eyes. A final kiss, a final glance, a final touch. The final bullet that preceded the final death. An unrepairable wound, they were hoping. Just as the Seeker's eyes widened in surprise as she understood the scene before her eyes, he fired.
The bullet killed them both.
