A Trip to the Pet Shop
-----
Kyo sighed as Tohru gently tugged on his hand, pulling him along behind her. They had just spent the whole day together walking around town and now Tohru wanted to make one more stop before they went home.
But even though he was tired he didn't really mind having Tohru cart him to one last place.
Tohru turned back to him, smiling. "It'll be fun, I promise!" she said.
Kyo didn't respond, just kept following.
Soon, they came to a small shop and went inside.
And the first thing Kyo thought was; it smells like cat.
The moment they walked into the small pet store, a pungent wave of animal smells and pet food washed over them.
"They're so cute!" Tohru cried and darted towards a small, fenced off area. When Kyo caught up he realized, with an odd feeling of irony and exasperation, that the space was filled with cats.
There were cats of all sizes. They were big, small, old, young, white, black, gray, yellow, and orange. Every kind of cat imaginable was in that space, walking around, playing or just sleeping.
Tohru was knelt down in front of the fence, looking at all of them, smiling at every feline that approached her, begging for attention and scratches behind the ear.
Kyo warily moved to stand next to her, aware of every cold-shoulder he received from some of the older cats. He sighed again and slumped his shoulders. Suddenly, he really wanted to go home.
He changed his mind though when he saw Tohru holding a young black and white kitten to her chest. She giggled when the cat reached up and gently liked her face with its delicate pink tongue.
The look she gave that kitten was so tender and kind, Kyo couldn't help let a smile slip onto his lips.
After a while, Tohru gently placed the cat behind the short fence and stood back up, smiling. Taking his hand, she and Kyo left the shop and started back home.
"They were adorable, Kyo-kun!" Tohru gushed. Kyo smiled in response, giving her hand a squeeze.
"So which one was your favorite?" he asked.
Tohru thought for a moment. "Well, I liked all of them, but…" she stopped walking, which in turn made Kyo stop.
They had just entered the park, and since it was late they were alone. It was quiet there, surrounded by lush grass and beautiful trees.
Suddenly Tohru threw her arms around Kyo's waist and buried her face in his shirt, catching him off guard. She looked up into his face; cheeks tinged pink and said, "If I had to chose, my favorite is this one."
Kyo let the words sink in and gradually started smiling. He didn't say anything; he just bent down and kissed her lovingly.
