Breaking News

Diana stretched her arms as she padded into the kitchen. The sun was slanting into the room, indicating that it was early afternoon. Diana didn't mind. It felt good to sleep in, especially after the craziness of the last couple days. She didn't plan on checking the phone or watching TV or reading. She was just going to lounge around and be lazy for once in her life. Then she'll go back to training and researching...
Her mind trailed off. True thought was too tiring.
She smiled automatically at Bruce who nodded to her in acknowledgement as she sat down at the table. A plate of grapes and waffles up were waiting for her. She touched the plate. It was still warm. She tried not to smile too much as she ate her grapes, humming in appreciation.
"Someone made the front page." Bruce commented nonchalantly, passing the paper over to Diana. Diana took it and her eyes widened. Right in the center of the front page was a full-length picture of her.

It was strange for Diana to see herself in such detail Her eyes were wide, not expecting the camera, and hair flowing halfway down her back. Her bracelets stood out in comparison to glittering jewelry that adored her neck and fingers. The dress complimented her in ways Diana never realized, outlining curves she didn't even know she had. Now she knew what people saw when people like Audrey complimented her. They saw this woman, not her.

Diana's eyes flickered to the headline and her eyebrows scrunched up. The title, THE BEAUTY OR THE BEAST, stood out boldly on top. She scanned the article quickly.

Yet despite the chaos of the past few days surrounding Queen Audrey of Kasnia, the beauty above, known as Diana Prince, took center stage. And not in the way you would think. There were numerous reports of a flying figure over New York the night of the attempted assassination of the queen along with witnesses saying that a mysterious woman rescuing her from falling. Then, of course, the damage caused on the palace grounds caused by one ship and a woman. It seems like something from science fiction but superhuman beings are not unheard of in our world. Is this wonder woman another?

"Superhuman beings?" Diana asked. "What's it talking about?" Bruce sighed.

"There are others with…exceptional skills." Bruce said.

"Like Colonel Vox?"

"Not really." He said. "The powers vary with each person but they do things are supposedly unnatural. Sometimes, it simply technology. Other times it was a lab experiment that went wrong—or right depending on your views. Then there are people like you that are naturally endowed with their abilities." Diana looked at him in shock.

"Do you know any?" Diana asked excitedly. Bruce's mouth formed a thin line at the question. He knew it would be safer to lie but she trusted him with her secrets. It would unfair for him to hide information like that from her; especially after everything she's done.

"…Yes." He answered hesitantly.

"That's great!" Diana answered excitedly before moving away from table. "Maybe I can meet them. You can introduce me to them."

"Absolutely not." Bruce said sternly, killing the idea instantly. Diana looked at him with a wounded expression. Bruce didn't pay her any mind as he continued to eat his brunch. Diana yelled in frustration.

"Ugh! Seriously Bruce?" She exclaimed. "Why not? I mean, maybe I can find somebody like me-"

"Isn't that exactly what you were trying to avoid?" Bruce asked, finally looking at her. "You were on an island with people just like you and you ran from them."

"It was not that simple." Diana said, her tone slipping into something dangerous as she thought of the shadows she kept from him that hid right under her skin. If he knew…

"Well, either way, I am not going to risk my privacy for a get together with random heroes." Bruce said decidedly. He picked up his paper and flipped through it. Diana narrowed her eyes at him and scoffed.

"Don't you mean your self-imposed exile?" Diana responded. Bruce tensed before setting his paper down. "I'm not an idiot, Bruce. I know you called for help with disarming that rail gun. There's no way you could change the gun's coordinates and self-destruct it in thirty seconds. You called someone to help. And that someone showed up last night before flying out of here."

"That is none of your concern." Bruce told him nonchalantly. Diana flopped down and picked at her cold breakfast. They sat in silence while Diana got around to eating a bit. She kept looking at him from the corner of her eye. He paid her no mind. Bruce was a master in patience. And Diana was only a novice. Realizing he wouldn't break first, she spoke again.

"You never told me your story." She pointed out. Bruce ignored. She looked right at him, gripping her hands into fist. "Damn it, Bruce, I've told you everything. I've helped you…I'm giving you everything I have. Why don't you trust me?" She asked desperately. True, she had another secret but she refused to put all her cards out until she knew he trusted her with everything too. Bruce sighed as she watched him. He looked at her fists and put his hand over one.

"Relax." He told her. "You're denting my mother's silverware." Diana dropped the fork immediately. He was right. There were groves that marked where her fingers were. She smiled apologetically before using her strength to straighten it again. She handed him the fork, which he took gratefully, placing it next to his own.

"You know that I trust you." Bruce told her. "The fact that you're here, only a few feet away from me should tell you that. That I'm talking to you as openly as I can should also tell you that. But there are parts of my life that you can't know. No one can know about them."

"And the parts you can tell me?" She said with a raised eyebrow, skeptical but hopeful. Bruce shrugged before leaning back.

"You know most of it. All you have to do is ask and I'll tell you the rest."

"You promise?" Diana asked.

"You have my word." Bruce reassured her. Diana smiled at him.

"Okay." She said before standing up. "But for now, I'm going to take a walk. My friend is expecting me. Mind a sparring match when I get back?" Diana asked with a smirk. Bruce chuckled.

"I doubt you can handle it." Bruce said. Diana rolled her eyes.

"Trust me, you haven't had a real fight unless you've fought an Amazon." Diana said with a wink as she walked out the door. She could hear Bruce's laugh as she walked out and smiled. That was definitely an accomplishment.

Diana made her way through New York with a bounce in her step. There was something very energizing about feeling useful. Though the last few days were emotional and had their fill of complications, the end result was worth it. She almost dared to say she would do it again. If there was an again. Diana slowed to a stop at the thought. A couple people bumped into her. She murmured an apology before beginning to walk again.

How often would that happen? Every month? Every week? That was no easy mission. And then there's the fact that she was only helping Bruce. Well, really they did together but still, he was aware of the real situation. He knew the world better. She still had to learn how the systems worked. If she learned anything from the last few days, you can't just rush into everything. But would Bruce let her?

She scoffed mentally. Would Bruce let her. She's not a child who needs to ask for permission. She's a woman who can handle herself. Yet it didn't change the fact that she didn't know where to look. Or to start. Or even how to approach it. As much as she hated it, she did need Bruce.

Getting out of her own thoughts, Diana finally noticed the eyes on her. She looked around. People automatically looked away although a brave few continued to ogle her. She looked straight ahead and dove into a convenient store. She ducked her head as people turned instinctively towards the door. She browsed the shelves quickly before spotting something and smiling. She heard about chocolate but never tried it. Bruce never kept any inside the loft.

She crouched down and looked over the section before picking up two, a Hershey bar and a Snickers. She walked to the cashier and placed the two items down. The cashier looked her up and down for a moment before scanning the items. She reached into her pocket in search for the money Bruce gave her yesterday ("So you can get use to having it." Bruce told her).

"Oh that's not necessary." The cashier told her. She looked at him in confusion as he bagged the candy and held it out to her.

"But I didn't pay for it." She told him. The cashier waved the statement away.

"Heroes get it on the house." He told her. Diana took the bag gingerly, looking at him confused. "I mean you are the woman who saved that princess, right?" Diana felt all the people in the store turn their attention to her. She smiled innocently at the cashier.

"I'm sorry. You have the wrong person." She bluffed before turning quickly.

"Yes that is." Another customer said. "She looks just like the woman in the picture." Diana looked to where the person was pointing and saw a thick stack of newspapers with her face on it. She felt the crowd's excitement and walked quickly to the door.

"Wait, Wonder Woman can I get a picture?"

"Oh my gosh how did you do all that?"

"Are you an alien?"

Diana covered her ears as she pushed her way through the growing crowd. She stopped when she got out before looking back. She was already across the street. Yet she could spot the people from the convenient store looking around for her, talking to the people around her. She started running again only to be caught again, this time on purpose.

"Okay, slow down, princess." Someone grunted as Diana literally ran into their arms. The man took a couple steps back to steady himself and Diana looked up. The guy was looking at the crowd across the street before smirking down at her. "You do realize that you're just going to attract more attention that way."

"I…I'm sorry for bumping into you." Diana said as she stepped back, untangling herself from the mysterious man. She tried to step around him but he caught her hand. She looked down before taking a deep breath, her heartbeat still erratic. "I have to go. Let go of me."

"I know." The guy said, before nodding towards another street. "Wanna take another route?" Diana knew it was stupid to trust a random stranger (again) but she could take this one guy if he tried to pull something and she needed to leave now. She nodded quickly. The man smiled at her before tugging her around the corner. There were fewer people there. They walked discreetly for a while before the guy checked behind them.

"And now we run." He said. Diana heard the footsteps behind her and nodded. The guy let go of her hand and they took off, leading her through a series of streets and back alleys. "By the way, what's your name?" He asked as they ran.

"Diana," She answered automatically. "Yours?"

"Jason."

"I can't believe that happened." Diana said as she and Jason relaxed on a rooftop. She wanted to fly back to the loft but it was very possible that people would be looking for her. The safest thing for her to do was to sit back and wait for the sun to go down. She wished she hadn't left her earpiece . She wondered if Bruce was worried about her.

"Welcome to stardom, princess." Jason joked as he looked out to the city, Diana looked at him curiously.

"Why do you keep calling me that?" She asked. Jason shrugged.

"Your last name is Prince and you're a girl so…princess." He explained before smirking. "Why? Don't like it?"

"Not really." She told him.

"Then it stays." He decided. Diana rolled her eyes before laughing a bit.

"You want to tell me why you didn't react like everybody else when you saw me?" Diana asked. Jason shrugged.

"Because I feel no need to be fanatic about one person. No matter how beautiful." Jason winked at her. Diana looked away as the newspaper image popped into her head. She didn't know why but it bothered her. The woman was gorgeous. She was confident. But Diana couldn't help but feel like that wasn't her. "You okay?" She looked up to see Jason watching her. She smiled at him disarmingly.

"I'm fine." She told him. He blinked a couple time before looking away. She stood up and stretched as she watched the sun set over the horizon. Night couldn't come quick enough. She turned to him. "I should go now. Thank you for helping me."

"Anything for a pretty face." Jason teased. Diana frowned before looking away from him. Jason saw this and stepped closer to her, placing his hand right beside hers. "Hey, I was just kidding."

"It's hard to tell." Diana told him. "Is that all I am? To those people and that article?" Jason tilted her head up and moved her hair behind her ear.

"You are beautiful." He told her sincerely. "But trust me, if you actually did all that stuff their talking about, you're far more than that." Diana smiled at him gratefully before stepping away from Jason. She crossed her arms as if defending herself. She wasn't use to the casualty that men and women had between them. Their reactions to her were strange. Half the time she wasn't not sure if she scared them or if they're trying to scare her.

"Either way," Diana said. "Thanks for the help." She stepped on the ledge, prepared to fly off but she felt Jason grab her hand. She notice her did that a lot.

"Wait," he said. "Can I see you tomorrow?" Diana furrowed her eyebrows.

"Why?" She asked. Jason chuckled.

"Because I think you're interesting and I want to see you again." Jason told her. He squeezed her hand gently in reassurance. "Is that okay?" Diana bit her lip. Should she see him again? He knew who she was, at least vaguely. She knew that Bruce—most people she knew—would tell her to stay away. But Jason smirked at her, silently challenging her and she couldn't resist.

"Okay." She agreed. "I'll meet you right here." She promised as she pulled her hand out of his and flew off.

Diana landed quietly on the balcony before slipping inside the loft. She closed the curtain behind her before breathing a sigh of relief. Now she was sure no eyes were on her. She turned around and scanned the room before walking pass the kitchen to the hallway. She went to the last bedroom and saw Bruce typing away at his computer. She watched him for a moment, a smile coming other face. She was suddenly very glad to be home.
"I was getting worried about you." Bruce said nonchalantly. Diana eyes widen in shock.
"You were?" She asked surprised.
"Yes I was about to send a search party." Bruce said. Diana scowled, catching on to his sarcasm as she walked in.
"Sorry, I was detained." She replied bitterly. She perched herself on the edge of the desk. Diana saw Bruce look at her for a moment before returning to his typing. What she didn't notice was the small swallow he did and his movements were stiffer than before. Good lord, Bruce thought as he tried to focus on his work. But Diana was starting to take up his thoughts more than before.
Before the mission together, he knew Diana was beautiful. The fact was hard to ignore but he passed it off as that. He'd seen plenty of beautiful women. Not as beautiful, but her nativity negated that, making her very young in his mind and less attractive. After the mission was a whole different story. He had seen a warrior. Someone that could stand by him and help him. And it had been a long time since that happened. She was smart, resourceful, and not scared by him. To say she had become a distraction would be an understatement.
Now he couldn't discount her curves when he looks at her. Nor the clear blue eyes or toned arms or her smile. He was in trouble.
"What happened?" Bruce asked, remembering what she had said before he got lost in his own mind. She let out an irritable sigh.
"People recognized me when I was out. They started to crowd me." Diana said.
"Well now I know it wasn't because of the sparring match." Bruce joked dryly.
"Oh, please, I'm not daunted by some man." Diana said, crossing her arms, acting serious before laughing when she saw Bruce raised an eyebrow at her. He shook his head at her before looking at the bag in her hand.
"What's that?" He asked. She looked down, remembering the bag she had been holding for hours.
"Oh," she said before opening it and showing him the chocolate. "I was curious." She explained.
"They don't have chocolate on Themiscyra?"
"Nope. Just fruit." She said as she took a bite. She hummed in appreciation. Someone save me, Bruce thought as he tried not to stare at her. Last thing he needed was her catching on to his thoughts. He wasn't sure how much she knew about physical relations between men and women but he wasn't taking any chances. It was would be tedious to have to scale the building after she threw his out the window.
"Do they always have hearts on the wrappers?" Diana asked. Bruce looked the candy over.
"No. It's just because of Valentine's Day." Bruce told her.
"Valentine's Day? Oh," she said. "The day of love."
"The day of commercialism." Bruce replied. "They make millions off of couples every year."
"I'm sure it's more than that." Diana said before setting the candy aside. She hesitantly before asking, "Did you celebrate Valentine's Day?" Bruce chuckled bitterly.
"Too many times." He answered. He saw her face and sighed. "And no I didn't degrade then and make then lesser than. I was a perfect gentleman." Diana composed her face. Her thoughts were actually the exact opposite of what he thought. She wasn't disgusted by the thought of him treating other women to the holiday. She was daunted by how many times he's done it.
"Yeah," she bluffed as she looked away. "Did you...ever love any of them? Your valentines?" Bruce's fingers slowed to a stop as he thought about it. His mind immediately brought up a few faces that still mattered to him after all of these years. Thoughts of watching Selina wear a ruby ring she "stole" the day after Valentine's Day or the secluded cafe in France with Talia...he continued to type.
"A couple." He answered vaguely. Diana could see him shutting down on her and she could only guess how painful the memories were for him. She held out the Hershey's bar out to him. He looked at her stunned before taking it from her. He ate a small piece and moaned. Diana giggled despite the fluttering in her stomach at the sound.
"I forgot how good chocolate was." Bruce confessed. "But you didn't get the best kind."
"What's the best then?" Diana asked as she continued to eat her snickers bar.
"Kit Kat," Bruce told her. "Or M&M's. But your picks are still pretty good."
"Of course. He's an expert chocolatier." Diana said sarcastically. Bruce shrugged but she still spotted the small smile on his face. They continued to talk and enjoy their dessert, nothing forced about it. It was one of the most natural conversations they had with anyone.

"Did you see the newspaper articles?" Diana asked Audrey over the phone the next day as she looked at a different newspaper with yet another picture of her. This time it was one of her dancing with Bruce with bold caption saying, "The New Power Couple of the Century?"

"Of course, darling," Audrey said. "You look gorgeous. Who made that dress?"

"I can't remember. Some Christian something or other—wait, which article are you talking about?" Diana asked.

"The one in the Daily Planet, although there are a couple in the local Kasnia papers." Audrey said.

"Are you serious?" Diana said, suddenly alarmed. That wasn't good. That only meant a matter of time before one of the Amazons found her, if they were looking for her. She could only imagine her mother's reaction at the picture in her hand.

"Yes. Your face as been all over the news." Audrey said. "But don't worry. In a couple of days you'll be old news."

"Apparently not. According to the New York Times Bruce and I are supposed to be one of 'Hollywood's hottest couples.' Isn't Hollywood across the country?"

"Darling, it doesn't matter. If you're in the spotlight, you might as well be from Hollywood. And I saw you dancing with him. What is going on with you two?" Audrey asked and Diana could hear the smirk in her voice. She was about to point out that Audrey already knew since she gave her advice on him but then she remembered that she never told Audrey Bruce's name. "Diana, are you there?"

"Yeah," Diana answered quickly. "I'm here. I—nothing is going on with us. We just danced. He seemed like a really nice guy."

"Well, be careful. He moves around quickly, if you know what I mean." Diana's mouth became a thin line as she thought back to their conversation last night when she asked him if he celebrated Valentine's Day. What did he say? Too often and too many.

"I know what you mean." She replied before turning when she saw something move from the corner of her eye. It was Bruce on the balcony, beckoning her to come outside.

"By the way, who was that man who helped you out when you were taking down Vandal?"

"He's…" Diana trailed off perplexed. Didn't recognize Bruce? Or did Bruce do something so Audrey couldn't recognize him? She wondered…Bruce tapped on the glass impatiently. "He's a friend." Diana improvised. "I have to go, Audrey, but I'll call you later."

"Miss you already, darling." Audrey said as she hung up. Diana put her phone the table before heading outside. Bruce jumped on the railing before jumping onto the roof with Diana following. They were both wearing sweats, ready for the training they were about to get. Diana was surprised to find a mat off to the side and the area marked out as a sparring circle.

"Do you want the mat?" Bruce asked. Diana shook her head She never used one and Artemis was against using them, saying "it made you're skin too soft. There were no mats in battle."

The stood opposite to each other at the edge of the circle. She immediately got into her fighting stance and Bruce did the same.

"Ready when you are." He said. She nodded and they began to circle each other. She scanned his body for weak points. Knowing how quick Bruce could heal himself gave her an idea of what he could sustain and how quickly but beyond that, Bruce was in perfect shape. No faults anywhere as far as she could see. So where to hit him?

"Who was that on the phone?" Bruce asked.

"What?" Diana said, thrown by the question, and relaxed her stance. She jumped back just in time to avoid Bruce's punch. "Hey!"

"Can't let yourself be distracted." He said.

"But you're talking to me. It's only natural to respond back." Diana snapped, irritated. Bruce dropped his guard and looked at her sternly.

"Words are the easiest way to get to someone. The best criminals are the strongest or the fastest. They're the smartest. The cleverest, the ones that know how to use their words. They'll needle you about your insecurities, your fears, and anything else they know about just to rile you up and distract you. I just asked you a simple question and your mind already came out of it." Diana grunted looking away and crossing her arms. Bruce went to stand in front of her.

"I'm not trying to make fun of you." He said softly, trying to reassure her. "But you need to stay focus, no matter what's happening in a fight."

"Okay," Diana said, relaxing her arms but her shoulders no less tense. "Ask me again."

"Who was that on the ph-" Bruce was cut off as Diana grabbed his arm and twisted it, pushing him to the ground.

"Audrey." She answered with a smirk. Bruce nodded. Just as she loosened her grip, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her down with him. They wrestled for a moment before Diana kicked him off of her. Unfortunately for Bruce, the kick was harder than she thought it would be and he went flying off the rood.

"Oh Hera!" She said before scrambling up and running to the edge. She found Bruce hanging there with out of all expressions, annoyance.

"Another thing," He said. "You're going to have to practice without using your super strength. Or speed. Or flight. And whatever else you have." He grunted as he lifted himself back onto the roof.

"Why? Well, other than that…" Diana trailed off sheepishly.

"Because what if you lose them?" Bruce asked. "What if something happens and you can't rely on them anymore? You need to know how to work your body so it's not an hindrance." Diana let out an irritated sigh. "Have you honestly never thought about it?"

"My people fight gods." She pointed out. "The possibility of dying was higher than that."

"Good point but that doesn't change what you need to do." Bruce replied, staring her down. Diana stared back despite feeling overwhelmed by him initially. But the intimidation she felt quickly faded. She knew him too well now. But she did see his point so she stepped back.

"Fine." She relented before walking to her starting point.

She once again slipped into her fighting position. Bruce did the same and they circled each other once again. She made the first move this time around, testing him with a quick kick that he caught. She twisted so that she was on her hands and aimed a kick at his face. He caught her other foot. She pushed herself up from the ground into him. Bruce stepped back and smoothly flipped her over him.

Diana stumbled on her feet and looked at him in surprise. Bruce stood calmly, waiting for her next attack. He was better than she thought.

"Was that use of super strength?" He said. She placed a hand on her hip.

"Not if you have enough upper body strength." she shot back. Bruce shook his head but let it go before changing at her. Diana leaned out of the way, trying catch his arm but was blindside by a elbow to her ribs. All the air rushed out of her body and she fell. Bruce moved to stomp on her but she rolled out of the way just in time. She stood up but barely moved out of the way before Bruce could punch her.

He drove her closer to the edge of the roof. She tried to duck and tackle him from his waist but he easily tossed her off. She didn't mind since it brought her to the center again but she knew she needed to think of something to throw him off. Bruce stood at the edge, waiting for her. She lifted herself off the ground and ran towards him. He reached out to grab her, like she semi-guessed and she grabbed his wrists before he could grab her completely and pushed her knew into his nose. That caused him to stumble back to her relief.

"Why didn't Audrey recognize you when you were in Kasnia?" Diana asked as Bruce got back up. He fixed his nose so that it would heal right before facing her again.

"It's an ability I have." He said. "I can shroud my appearance if I don't want to be recognize. You knew it was me because I let you know." He leaned back as Diana aimed a punch at his head. He grabbed her wrist and threw her to the ground but she landed on her feet.

"And why people recognized you at the party?" She grunted as she kicked him. It clipped his chest but her grabbed her thigh and punched her. She hissed in pain before forcing her way out his hold.

"They recognized my name mostly." He said.

"So who exactly is Bruce Wayne?" She asked as she tried to grab him, snaking her arms around his throat. He grabbed her hair and pulled so hard she automatically loosened her grip. He twisted so that he was holding her and forced her to the ground.

"That would be me in a former—oof!" He let out as she drove her knees into his gut before kicking him off of her. "In a former life." He finished as he rolled back to his feet.

"So you were a billionaire...playboy? What's a playboy?" Diana asked as Bruce launched into a series of hits. While Diana managed to dodge most of them, there were still some that landed and she could feel the bruises forming.

"A playboy is exactly what your mom warned you against." Bruce told her, not seeming winded at all.

"And are you?" Diana asked with an edge as she pulled him towards her while aiming a punch at his head. Bruce caught her fist easily, catching her eyes, freezing the fight. Diana was breathing heavily and not from just the fight. Bruce scowled.

"Not. Anymore." He answered sternly. Diana narrowed her eyes as she stepped back from him, ripping herself away from him in disgust. She forced herself to calm down and clear her head before she launched herself at him with a kick. He grabbed her leg and easily threw her. Diana let herself be thrown over the edge.

"Diana!" Bruce shouted as he rushed over to the edge of the roof. He searched of her frantically, not noticing her foot until it was too late. He was thrown back as Diana perched herself on the edge with a smirk right before tackling him to the ground. They tumbled, Bruce managing to get her on her back for one moment before she headbutted him and forcing herself on top. She had her hand wrapped around his throat loosely while she smirked at him. He was breathing heavily but managed to smile just a bit.

"Under the balcony, huh?" He panted. Diana shrugged.

"Just a little push in the right direction." She said.

"Super strength?" Her smirk widened into a smug smile.

"Maybe." She revealed as she relaxed and moved her hands to her sides. "But what about my new found celebrity? You know people think that me and 'Bruce Wayne' are together."

"That will die down quickly. As long as there aren't anymore appearances together." Bruce told her as he sat up, bringing him a lot closer than she expected. "Comfortable?" Diana noticed that she was still sitting on top of him. She was about to rebuttal but her mind switched gears as she felt the urge to push him back down on the roof, only this time it had nothing to do with sparring. She looked away shyly, her face flushing as she got up from him. She cleared her throat nervously.

"So I won." She said, regaining her composure. Bruce shrugged.

"For now." He said nonchalantly before smirking. "Next time. I'll know better." Diana laughed breathlessly.

"You can never just let me win." She said as she jumped off the roof. Bruce followed her with a smirk of his own.

"Of course not." He said. "That keeps things exciting."

Diana landed gracefully on the rooftop, not making a noise. She looked around or Jason but saw no one. She checked the building again. Maybe I'm on the wrong roof, she thought when she felt someone place their hands on her shoulders. She didn't think twice as she grabbed their hands and flipped them over her shoulder, holding them over the edge of the building, her sparring match with Bruce fresh in her mind.

"Okay I've learned my lesson. Don't sneak up on you." She looked down to see that she was holding Jason. She almost laughed at his expression as she lowered him back onto the roof.

"You shouldn't sneak up on me." She repeated as she held her hand out to help him up. He took it and she pulled him up easily. She was about to let go but he held onto her, stepping closer to her. Diana automatically stepped back. Jason looked at her confused.

"What's wrong?" He asked. Diana swallowed nervously. She didn't know what it was but she couldn't help but feel nervous being so close to another man other than Bruce. But even Bruce was a bit nerve-wracking. Her face flushed as she thought back to that afternoon where she was on top of Bruce. Never before had physical contact been so confusing to her. Now she couldn't help but question every move she made.

"I…um…why are you holding me so close?" She asked him.

"It's just natural for me. Although this isn't that close." Jason told her. "Why? Am I scaring you?" He teased. Diana scoffed.

"No." She said. "I'm just curious, that's all." But they both heard the tiny tremble in her voice. Jason looked at her intently, his smirk slipping a little.

"Well if you're that curious, you should know…" Jason trailed as he took her other hand and moved so they were toe-to-toe. He smiled at her reassuringly as she looked at him uneasily, his nose lightly brushing hers. "This is close." He said, his lower than before. "See? Not so bad."

"I guess." Diana responded vaguely. And it wasn't that bad, even though it made her stomach tumbled a bit. This close she couldn't help but notice that Jason was attractive. His eyes were light blue that got darker towards the center. He was her same height but wider. He bit his lips—nice and full—as he let go of her hands and moved his hands to waist. Diana automatically moved her hands to his shoulders, wide and taunt under her hands. She ran her fingers through his hair, surprise by how soft it was. The strong jaw line along with his ever-present smirk appealed to Diana. She wondered why until one stray thought came to the front of her mind...

If Bruce ever had a son, he would look like this.

The thought jolted through Diana and she jumped back. Jason groaned.

"Damn, I scared her." He teased before growing serious as he saw the shock on Diana's face. "Diana, what's going on?"

"I—I forgot. About something. I shouldn't have come tonight. I'm sorry." She stumbled as she walked to the edge of the building.

"Wait a minute, Diana, did I do something?" Jason asked as he stepped in front of her.

"No, no," She reassured him. "I just have to go."

"Do you regret coming?" He asked, making Diana pause. She couldn't say anything bad happened. They might not have talked like she wanted but the alternative was still enjoyable and made her curious.

"No." She told him. Jason relaxed her answer.

"Come see me tomorrow." He said. Diana narrowed her eyes at him.

"I don't take orders." She said rather harshly but Jason laughed before stepping towards her. He looked at her with innocent and pleading eyes.

"Please come and see me again tomorrow, Diana?" He asked her. The gentleness in his voice broke through her guard.

"Okay," She answered before she could think twice. She stepped around him before he could persuade him to do something else.

"Promise?" Jason said, turning around to watch her.

"Yes—" Diana answered but was cut off by Jason pressing his lips against hers. Diana's eyes widened, too stunned to push him off of her. An onslaught of emotions filled Diana. Confusion topped the list but so did anxiety and another emotion, a type of hunger she was sure waffles weren't going to fulfill. Jason pulled back.

"I'll hold you to it." He told her, his voice deep with the something she wasn't sure about. Diana didn't say anything as she stepped away from him and flew off the roof. She had to Bruce about this. Or did she? She pressed her lips together, the feeling of Jason's lips still fresh as she flew back home. What did she just do?

Jason watched the Amazon fly off and sighed. He really liked her, which was saying a lot considering they had only spent a few hours together but he couldn't help it. She was stunning. The body, the hair, the eyes, the accent—Jason could barely contain himself around her. More than that, she wasn't ditzy. Or afraid to throw him off of a roof if necessary. But she was also naïve and that was something he could use. All this made for a heady combination in his book. He smirked as continued to watch the disappearing figure. Bruce picked a good one, he thought as he slipped on his mask and descended to the city below.

The night was still young and he had a lot of work to do.
