Nisa-chan666: Another fic for whatever fans I may have (a group whose existence I somehow doubt), this time indulging in my guilty pleasure of Yu-Gi-Oh! Please rate and review!
Cookies.
Looking in her lunch box, Téa decided that sometimes rice-balls just weren't enough to sustain a growing girl through what promised to be a tough second half to the school day. She told herself that the fact that Yugi had taken cookies today as part of his lunch wasn't the reason for this at all, but, regardless of whether this was true or not, she was still being tempted by the little discs of biscuity goodness that he was steadily nibbling through. Joey and Tristan had already taken a couple each without any complaint on Yugi's part (or at least not much), so it wasn't as if he would mind if she asked for one, but for some reason she couldn't bring herself to do it. Call it some strange sense of pride, but she didn't want to presume that she could automatically have one.
As he listened to Joey and Tristan half-run, half-fall down the stairs, Yugi cast another glance in Téa's direction. She seemed to be deliberating about something, her thinking frown on her face.
Taking the cookie he had been chewing from his mouth, he asked, "Is something the matter, Téa?"
Jumping a little, she replied, "No. It's nothing, really."
"You sure?"
Before she could reaffirm herself, her stomach gurgled. A few seconds' silence followed, before being broken by Yugi's quiet laughter.
"You were hungry?"
Téa pouted, but didn't disagree with him.
"I wondered why you were glancing my way so much. I guess I should have offered you a cookie earlier," he said, reaching into his bag.
It was emptier than he remembered. Feeling around the bottom of the paper bag, he could find nothing but crumbs beneath his fingertips.
"Um, Téa, I think Tristan and Joey might have taken the last ones. Hang on."
Balancing his own half-eaten biscuit between his lips, he picked up the bag to peer inside it, though he already knew that there wouldn't be anything left in there. Whilst in this futile effort, he failed to notice Téa's expression change. Rather than disappointed, as he might have expected, she had now adopted her other thinking face, the one that meant that he was either going to have the life shocked out of him or something bad was going to happen. Or both. When he looked up, her face had moved to about an inch away from his. His eyes widened. He could feel his cheeks flushing as she began to close the distance, her lips parted slightly. Just as he thought he would have a heart attack, Téa neatly bit off a section of cookie and sat back, a grin on her face.
"Hmm, chocolate chip. You have good taste," she said, chewing contentedly.
Yugi could only sit there, trying to remember how to breathe again.
"Oh well, I have to go. I need to talk to sensei about my Science paper. Thanks for the cookie," she said, standing up and brushing down her skirt.
Yugi nodded, not trusting himself to speak at that moment. As she was crossing the rooftop to the stairs, he could feel Atemu materialising next to him. The Pharaoh looked at his host for a moment, an amused smile on his face.
When Téa was safely a flight beneath them, Atemu said, "You thought she was going to kiss you, didn't you?"
"...Shut up," came the lame reply.
