Summary: Your destination is darkness, Raito-kun. It's just the way you're fated.

Author's Note: Sophie's World is a bit odd, and it had me just nodding and agreeing with everything but the maths, cos maths is the only thing not questioned in the entire book. I'm not gonna explain on here, but if you think philosophically, one plus one is two, but doesn't have to be.

Whatever. This is for me, 'cos I remembered The Rasmus were an awesome band, and I wanted to congratulate myself. It's probably gonna be short. Really short.

Yagami Raito was an idiot, L knew. Maybe not academically, and although L also knew that Light was only eighteen, he found it almost a scandal that someone with an IQ that shot passed even L's, was so naive.

He had lived his life with his eyes closed - a sleeping swan; unaware and lonely in his own world. So, it's no fault of his own that he'd turned to the darkness in order to want to break himself out of the never-ending, endless light.

Light had the perfect life, and he took it for granted. But because of the perfection, he was a bored student, and he had never met anyone at his level. He was brought up in a perfect little world, and had perfected everything about himself - forced everything he touched and everyone he came across to make themselves perfect too. L wasn't surprised that when Light had been awoken to the horrors of real life outside his boring, white, inner walls, he'd been compelled to white wash the dirt and eliminate the bugs that were crawling up his pristine ideals and dragging mud and blood up with them.

L was the opposite of Light - had been brought up in darkness and imperfection and was told to clean it up. He did, but in a different way. He enjoyed putting the dirt on other people and ruin their white-wash walls. He knew that, no matter how far he'd come from the blackness he'd been born into, he would never truly break away from it. Life was just too boring without getting to taint things.

Now the time had come to go deeper into each other's opposing world, and both were determined to make the other's world their own.

Light was armed with his wit as a metaphorical bug-spray, and L was armed with his as metaphorical handfuls of dirt and grime. Both glowed with confidence and they aimed at the other, and fired.

On the edge on the horizon, L saw a light, with a hellish red glow behind it. It held a scythe and smiled demonically.

On the edge of the horizon, Light saw a reaper. It was him.

Destiny had foretold that Light would be who he was, and L theorised that he was destined to fate him. He was annoyed that someone would rip away from their morals so quickly and smoothly to become someone as terrible as Kira, but he wasn't bitter towards Light. Something had pre-destined this, and Light had no will but to do it. L, in turn, had no will but to fight against him.

Their final journey had begun - both knew as they stared deep at each other, knowing who each other were instantly, despite the fronts and the tricks and the aliases.

Only one would come out, but for both the destination was darkness.

L sat in the rain, feeling it him his from the northern skies, and each felt like a sharp stab from a poison-covered knife that had no mercy.

Light stood in front of him, obviously not feeling the same, looking like he wanted to hold the poisoned knives and stab L with all the mercy in his body, which measured to about as much as what the weather held.

But L couldn't fear Light…

And Light had never feared L.

L closed his eyes for the one last time,

and Light was fated sleepless nights,

but it didn't scare him.

End.

Author's Note: Pah, I'm a lazy arse. xD Couldn't even be bothered with that last one. Anyway!
