OoOoOoOoOoOo
Sometimes the cold seemed unbearable.
It seeped into her bones, settling in like a permanent freeze. She clutched her arms and shivered as the wind blew fiercely through her hair and across her skin. Goose bumps chased after the breeze, leaving prickly bumps in their wake. Her brown eyes scanned the trees looking for a sign, anything really, that might clue her in to Jacob's return. He was a wolf, a man, a perfect combination of the two and everything he did dictated her life. The best moments they shared were the ones in which they found themselves sleeping in on the weekend, entwined in each other's embrace. But then there were moments like these, where she was left sitting on the porch steps waiting for any news of his return.
The wind whispered through the trees again, tricking her into believing he was home for a brief moment. Her throat felt thick and her shoulders were heavy. The wait killed her every time. A glance at her watch told her that he had been gone for two hours. She let out a weary sigh and stood to re-enter the house. Her hand was on the door knob when she heard heavy steps. She whirled around and there he was, a russet colored wolf with eyes like warm chocolate.
Gravity.
She through herself from the porch and collapsed around his furry neck. She pressed her face into his fur and fought back the tears. The agony she felt every time he left was only remedied by his return. She didn't let him go as he started to shift to his human form, she only pulled herself closer when he was a more familiar shape. Jacob scooped her up into his arms and carried her back to the house, undaunted by his lack of attire. It wasn't until he had her pressed into their bed, his warm body her only blanket that she released her choking grip to press a kiss to his soft lips.
The pack talked about imprinting like it was chains that bound you to a person. As though your every thought and action was tied to your imprint. Jacob often told her that she was like oxygen; he couldn't live without her and wouldn't want to try to. It seemed like imprinting was a one sided thing, fate chooses you and that's it. Nobody ever discussed the connection the imprint feels to their wolf. They never talked about how the hours your wolf spent away from you left you anxious and worried. Or how when they were away your focus was gone and how when they were near all you could think about was how good they smell, how wonderful they feel pressed against you. No one ever mentions how the wolf becomes more than just your life mate. How the wolf becomes your very life line.
Jacob was her everything.
His hot kisses kept her body thawed, his warm presence kept her heart beating, his comforting scent kept her thoughts positive, his powerful words kept her attentions captive and his considerate actions kept her coming back for more. Their relationship was as natural as breathing and as consistant as the weather in Forks.
Bella maybe oxygen, but Jake was gravity.
