Welcome to the eighth Installment of From Far Away: What the Boy Stands For

Silence was something Elenion was good at. When his family had questioned him when he had awoken in the Healer's Hall, he had said nothing. When the twins had cuddled him and begged him to tell them what had happened, he said nothing. When Aragon followed him around like an overprotective puppy, he had said nothing. And when Elrond sat with him in the libraries to learn history and arithmetic he kept his silence. So when Gandalf finally cornered him it was no surprise to anyone when the small elfling did not respond.

There was also the Prince. Days had passed since the incident and once more Elenion found himself navigating the halls of Rivendell with the express interest of avoiding Legolas, who had taken to stalking him. Dark circle lined dull eyes peered warily down the hallway. Sleep had not been kind to the child. Nightmare plagued him every night and had taken to wandering the halls of Rivendell till the sun rose in the dawn.

Elenion shuffled towards the kitchen. It would seem every time Rivendell received a new person he would take to avoiding them, Elenion mused darkly his thoughts turning to Legolas. The blond elf reminded him strongly of Lucius Malfoy and it unnerved him greatly. Quietly, the boy grabbed an apple and left the busy kitchen unnoticed. Time in the war had made his steps silent. Habit engrained from months on the run and sneaking into places he had no placing being in.

The halls were starting to come alive with elves when the emerald eyed child walked out into the gardens. Nature always calmed his nerves and after that night Elenion found himself to be twitchy when too many people were around. He flinch with sharp movement. He panicked when trapped. Even just tucked within the sheets of his bed the elfing found himself suffocating. Elenion was unbalanced, his emotions were churning just under his skin and he felt like any moment he was going to lose it.

Turning a bend Elenion made his way to the maze near the back of the garden. A place, he found, where not that many inhabited. Taking a bite of his apple the once savior picked up a lone stick absentmindedly slashing it through the air to check it's balance as he made his way to the entrance of the maze.

The maze itself was beautiful. It's high walls reminded him of the Triward maze from his forth year but he found that that had been the only similarity. Where the Triward maze had been dark and full of danger. This maze was open and bright filled with flowers and fruiting bushes to snack on as one made their way to the center. Elenion relaxed as he enter the maze and allowed his magic to touch the warmth that made up Elven magic. Twenty minutes and a couple of wrong turns the small elfling finally got to one of three fountains set up with in the brush. Tiredly he sat down, emerald eyes sliding closed as he enjoyed the warm sun on his face while pushing his magic further outward to detect any unsavories from discovering him. Hopefully today he would reach equilibrium.

Legolas was looking for the small elfling. It had been two days since he had seen the child and now he found himself at the end of his patience. Who was this elfling? Where had he learn to fight like that? Who was Lucius and where had that pendent come from? Obviously it held some type of magic. What kind, the blond did not know but it called to him in a way he found hard to ignore. It sang to his soul and Legolas found himself unnerved everytime he was around Elenion which caused him to act coldly, almost cruelly to the child.

Determined, the prince made his way to the kitchen and asked if any of the elves there had seen the boy. One had and pointed him in the directions of the gardens. Once there a couple of questions to a few more elves and Legolas found his way to one of many mazes around Rivendell this one old and a little out of the way compared to the more popular ones closer to the city.

Sharp eyes found new tracks by a small being causing Legolas to grin. Today he would get answered from the boy. Following the tracks was more difficult than Legolas had predicted. The child stepped lightly and at some points the imprints disappeared for stretches at a time making it impossible to determine which way Elenion had traveled. Finally after an hour of wasted time he stumbled upon the boy. Long raven hair fell in waves passed small shoulders and framing a heart shaped face. The child's eyes were closed hiding what Legolas knew to be large doe like eyes behind his lids. The prince stepped forward and suddenly found himself trapped by jagged emerald.

"So this is where you've been hiding," Legolas observed outloud to break the tension that had begun filling the a minute Elenion did nothing just take him in, then the moment was gone and Legolas watched as the boy turned away from him not noticing how the bright clear green dimmed into a dull jade or how small shoulders seemed to sag like some kind of weight had been placed upon them. No the blond did not notice any of these thing instead the prince say arrogance in the movement. A dismissal of interest. A disregard for his person.

"You will look at me when I talk to you," Legolas demanded angrily stepping forward. Who did this child think he was to ignore him! He, Legolas Prince of the Mirkwood. Immediately after the step Elenion was on his feet and a couple of steps away and wary, stick sitting in the space he had just abandoned. The blond sneered taking the retreat for defiance. "Listen boy," The archer began. "I am a Prince and you will treat me with respect. Do you understand?"

Elenion remained silent and still as the Prince began his advance. This is the prince, he told himself. This is the prince he repeated silently as he tried to keep his emotions and memories at bay.

"Answer me when I'm talking to you,"

Dull green met vivid gray and clashed, it may not be Lucius but even so, this look alike was just as arrogant.

"Yes sir," the small warrior replied softly from disuse, breaking his silence. There was no need to instigate anything.

"Good." Legolas responded in satisfaction. "Now you will answer my question boy-"

Anger began to simmer as he interrupted, "Elenion."

"What?"

"My name is not boy, it's Elenion, use it." Elenion snapped, well there went equilibrium.

"I don't think I will." Legolas sneered. "Now tell me where you got that necklace boy?"

Dull emerald became darker in response. He hated the name boy, for him the name was always liked to pain and suffering. Beatings at the Dursleys, torture with the Death Eaters. He hated being called boy with a passion. Defence swelled in his belly.

"Fuck you," Elenion scowled darkly turning swiftly on his heels to leave. Fuck the prince. Fuck the Death Eaters. Fuck the Dursleys. Fuck everyone who called him boy.

A hand clamped down hard on his shoulder spinning the slight child back. Furious gray orbs where a lit with fire as the taller elf growled.

"What did you say to me boy!?"

Elenion's anger boiled over as he repeated himself slowly, vindictively, "I said, 'fuck you'. Now let go." Briefly the child noted that the grasp on his shoulder would bruise before noticing his red the Prince's face had gotten.

"You little bastard. How dare you talk to-,"

Rolling his eyes Elenion decided his had enough, "Shut it Princess. Not everyone is going to give into your demands, you stupid spoiled brat." Gray flashed and Elenion found himself on the ground with pain radiating from his cheek.

"No wonder your parents never told anyone about you. They must have been embarrassed," The elfling stilled and suddenly everything seemed to become cold as black eyes filled with ice looked up at him.

"My parents loved me with all their hearts. They loved me enough to die for me, so screw you Prince I hope you die horribly," The child stated calmly not bothering to get up. The pain in his cheek was nothing. This Elf was nothing.

Legolas scowled as he towered over the raven haired elfling. He was a Prince, no one defied him.

"That's not going to happen."

"That's what you think," Elenion responded as he got up elegantly, unmoved as the blond grabbed hold of his shirt and lifted him off his feet. "Are you going to hit me again?" he asked just as a voice called from the entrance to the clearing.

"ELENION!" Aragon yelled. Immediately Legolas dropped the child as the son of man ran to his fallen brother, "What have you done to him?!" The boy demanded as his eyes found the darkening skin on the younger boy's cheek. It was then Legolas realized how young and small Elenion truly was. Since that night he had begun thinking of the boy as older and stronger than what he was. In the clearing under the moonlight the small child before him had moved like a seasoned warrior an adult trained for battle but here in the sunlight the boy was fragile like glass, ready to break under even the slightest of mishandling.

Gray eyes watched the bruise blossom on Elenions pale skin and really, truly took in the child's appearance. Sunken eyes, dark circles, washed out parlor and bony cheeks. Dear Valor, Legolas thought guiltily, what had he done.

"I'm fine Aragon," Elenion spoke quietly trying to calm his brother. Gone was the anger, now he was just tired. Truly, truly tired. Closing his eyes briefly the elfling pinched the bridge of his nose trying to block out everything.

Aragon stilled before nodding, dark eyes glancing from the Prince to his brother as he stood up and helped the other boy to his feet.

"Come, let us put ice on your cheek to stop the swelling," The older boy tugged the smaller boy's hand to begin leading him out of the maze leaving the eldest staring after them.
