Long ago had her love for the hanyou faded, so the turmoil within her was not her longing for him, but for a companion to protect and be protected by. When Sesshomaru had joined the ragged group, she'd begun to lean on him. Quickly, though, she learned that he was no shoulder to lean on…and strangely, that excited her. He was a challenge. She's show him that she wasn't just a weak miko. She could protect herself.

Racing forward into the battle as soon as it ensued, she hoped to impress him. Of course, this was the dumbest thing she'd ever done, and she was almost immediately sliced across the back by one of Naraku's demons. This did not stop her, though. Instead, it encouraged her. When the demon swung to strike again, she lifted her hands and blasted it with her miko energy.

Once it had disintegrated, she whipped around to see if Sesshomaru was looking and found him glaring at her. "I-"

"You fool." He snarled harshly. "You could have been killed, miko. You are needed for the time. Use your pathetic ningen mind next time."

"B-but…do you- I mean-"

"Blundering idiot." Shoving her aside, he continued fighting.

"Do you accept me now? How hard was that, Kagome?" She cursed herself, then turned back to the fight at hand. She'd think later.
