Bad Day

by Dorthey Star

Dedicated to Miss Tere,

for teaching me grace notes and trills.

My first day at Hogwarts was horrible. I couldn't get the hang of writing with the quill (All I seemed to be able to make was blobs), I did horribly in Transfiguration, and I had already made enemies. The day was going horribly. I mean, I hadn't even made any friends! There were five other girls in Gryffindor- Natalie something, Jessica something, Maria Blankenship, Kara Prewett, and someone else that I couldn't remember. I'm sure there was someone else. There was someone else, wasn't there? See? I, Lily Evans, girl with a wonderful memory, couldn't even remember all my dormmates' names. Like I said, my day was crap.

I was about ready to write my parents (I had luckily thought to bring Muggle- is that what they called non magical people?- pen and paper) and tell them to take me home, when the door opened. I didn't want any of my magical family dormmates to come after me and stuff, so I curled up in my bed and feigned sleep.

"I hate this school!" came a girl's voice, just above a whisper and not far from tears, "I hate it, I hate Slytherins, I hate the teachers, and I hate…I hate…I hate…Man! I don't even know what I hate anymore!" The girl suddenly burst into tears. I couldn't help my curiosity anymore. I looked up. The girl had long strawberry blonde hair and her shoulders were shaking heavily.

"Kara?" I asked, uncertainly. I knew with my luck she would turn out to be Jessica or Natalie or someone, but at this point I didn't care.

"Yeah?" she sniffled, and brought her head up. Her eyes were brilliant blue from the tears and her nose was red. My mouth went dry. I knew I had to get her attention, but now that I had it I hadn't a clue what to say.

"I though, um, that you might, uh, want to, er, talk. I'm not liking Hogwarts much either," I confessed to her.

"Really? I thought I was the only one. All they can talk about," she said, referring to the magical born kids, "is how great it is to finally be here and how they had been looking forward to it. I can't say that. I had no clue I was a witch until I got the letter!"

"I know what you mean. I've had a horrible day, today. Maybe my sister was right," I said, gloomily, "Maybe I shouldn't have come."

"Well, we're in it for the long run. Friends, Lily?" she asked me, holding out her hand.

"Friends," I grinned and took the hand and gave it a firm shake. She smiled back and I knew it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Disclaimer: Lily and Hogwarts belong to JKR but everyone else belong to ME!!!!

Author's note: man, I didn't know I could type a story that fast! It took me a few minute. It's a bit odd, yes, but I figured: everyone couldn't have just loved Hogwarts on their first day. I mean, its unheard of!
