A/N: Short, probably sucky, but at least it's something while I actually have the chance to write.
Small. Frightened. Scared. Frail.
All of those words and their synonyms described Evan Bourne in one sense or another.
He was a deer caught in headlights; a baby bunny rabbit about to be steamrolled by a charging semi truck going eighty in a sixty-five.
The only time Evan was ever this afraid wasn't when he first attempted the Shooting Star Press. It wasn't when his parents had gotten in that car accident and were in the hospital. It wasn't even when he squared off in the ring against Big Show. No, Evan always had hope, hope in others and himself. Faith was on his side.
"I don't think it's yours."
The twenty-six year old professional wrestler was, for the first time in his life, unaware of his body, unaware of everything around him. He could feel nothing and only hear those five words ringing over and over in his head.
"Erm…Evan? Are you listening to me?"
Slowly, Evan shook his head. No, he wasn't listening. Hearing, but not listening. If he listened, all those words would make sense.
Evan blinked to focus his sight and then looked up at his longtime girlfriend, Regina. The soft blonde frowned at him with her doe eyes. "You don't even care, do you?"
"So, you're telling me that you're pregnant, right?" Evan asked, making sure that the most logical conclusion was in fact the correct one.
Regina placed her small hands on her white sundress over her stomach. "The test came out positive."
"So what in the hell do you mean that it's not mine?" Evan pondered out loud, too numb to feel pain from his girlfriend's disloyalty.
"Swagger."
"Anybody but Swagger," Evan stated, getting up and leaving the room.
"Evan, wait!" Regina called, but Evan closed the door behind him, sitting against it in the hallway.
He was cursed with being a gentleman. He was cursed without ever turning cross against anyone. Sadness washed over him, but not anger. He couldn't be mad at his innocent girlfriend, could he? That snake, Swagger, must have done something to her. Regina wouldn't have cheated like that for no reason.
And if it is Swagger's baby…
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Evan groaned as he leaned over to look at the digital clock on the hotel room bedside table.
7:03 AM.
Waking up in a cold sweat was never high on Evan's list of favorite things, but on that spring morning, he had no choice.
He stretched as he yawned, the rolled over.
No one next to him.
Regina didn't even exist.
Jack Swagger was one of his best friends.
"I gotta stop hanging out with Kendrick after the shows," he chuckled to himself.
