Raoul sat in his study, trying to concentrate on some paperwork. It seemed so boring compared to the days events, though. He had never expected to see her on that stage, sparkling like a star. When he left her side that day after being with her for weeks by that cottage by the sea, he had never expected to see her again.

He brushed aside the paperwork on his desk and opened a drawer in his desk. While all his other drawers were stuffed with different documents and pens, this one just had a small piece of paper in it, faded from the years.

Raoul took it out and unfolded it. It was a letter from Christine that she had given him before she left. He decided to read it once again:

Dear Raoul,

I know I'm going to miss you once I leave, so Papa helped me write this letter to you. Even when I'm older, I'm always going to remember you. I'll remember you rescuing my scarf from the ocean. I'll remember listening to Papa's violin with you, telling each other stories, having picnics in the attic, and my favorite story of all: the one about Little Lotte.

Do you think we're ever going to meet again? I don't know. Papa says we might not, but I hope we do. I hope I get to meet you again. You're the best friend I've ever known. I don't want to leave this cottage by the sea, but I have to for Papa's sake.

Au revoir, Raoul, and I hope we meet again.

Your Little Lotte

Raoul smiled when he finished reading. He had always hoped to see her again as well, and now he had. It seemed like everything could be perfect. If the two of them could just be together, he knew he would always be content with life.
