Dear People who started reading this when I first posted it
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update. I was horrified when I realised how long ago I started this story. It's shameful that I'm so behind. Hope the writing is still up to standard, I'm rather out of practice.
Dear People who started reading this more recently
Thanks for the continued interest in my story. I appreciate the follows and favourites.
Dear person who reviewed: "Uuuuppppdaaaatttteee!" Thank you, that was the kick up the pants I needed to start working on this.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
The rest of the weekend passed in a blur and all too soon, Monday had rolled back around.
Ichigo collapsed into an empty spot at the Gryffindor table, her head resting on the table, ignoring the food in front of her and instead deciding to have her first nap for the day. This nap was short-lived however, due to the arrival of Pudding and her now good friend Euan.
"Good morning, Ichigo" Pudding greeted as she jostled her way into a spot next to Ichigo, bumping her several times in the process to absolutely ensure she couldn't possibly still be asleep. Ichigo groaned and opened one eye to stare at her.
"Morning, Pudding."
"Why are you so tired?" Pudding asked as she piled her plate with food.
"I stayed up late finishing my homework," Ichigo sighed, pushing herself into a sitting position.
"Oh. You should have done it sooner," Pudding replied. Ichigo frowned.
"Thanks, that never occurred to me," she added sarcastically. Pudding shrugged and turned to Hermione, who was sitting on the other side of her, as she gasped and spread the newspaper out in front of her. It was an article about Professor Umbridge becoming the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. The two Mews leaned in closer to listen as Hermione read the article. The girls exchanged horrified glances as Hermione announced Umbridge's authority to inspect the other teachers.
Lettuce made her way to her first class of the morning, Ancient Runes. She stopped in surprise to see Professor Umbridge standing outside of the class. Lettuce walked over to stand next to Luna.
"Why is she here?" she asked the blonde.
"I believe she is here for an inspection," Luna replied. Lettuce sighed. This dreadful woman was going to ruin her favourite class. As the class started to file into the room, Lettuce heard a familiar humming noise coming from her bag. Alarmed, Lettuce ducked out of the line and quickly headed down the corridor and around the corner. She felt a little guilty as she pulled her pendent out of her pocket. She knew this was probably a bad situation, but she was glad she didn't have to spend any more time with Professor Umbridge than absolutely necessary.
Mint looked around as she climbed to her feet, she just couldn't get used to this portkey traveling. She was standing in the middle of nowhere. It was just a wide expanse of rolling hills. It would have been beautiful under different circumstances. She let out a shriek as Ichigo suddenly appeared next to her, closely followed by Lettuce who stumbled into Mint as she tried to keep her balance. Zakuro and Pudding arrived just after them and the four older Mews gathered around Pudding as she climbed to her feet.
"Where are we?"Ichigo asked.
"Why are we always in such random places?" Mint demanded, "What good can a Chimera do out here?"
"Don't forget, a lot of people doubt the return of Lord Voldemort,"Zakuro said. "Nothing would announce his return like giant terrifying monsters. He probably wishes to stay hidden until he's sure of his creatures' power." Masha bobbed up and down and floated towards the crest of a nearby hill.
"Hurry! Hurry!" The Mews transformed and ran after Masha. They froze in alarm when they reached the top of the hill. On the other side was a massive beast. It resembled a giant black horse, standing far taller than any grown man, its coat shimmering as though wet and its muscles rippling as it charged at men in long black robes and masks, who were shooting spells at it. The spells seemed to have no effect and the men apparated just before the creature collided with them. They reappeared far behind the monster, next to another man. It was the same man as the Mews had seen before, his silver hand shining in the sunlight. The creature turned around, snorting angrily and tossing its head as it once again charged at the men. The silver-handed man raised his wand and the creature stopped in its tracks, pawing at the ground furiously as it seemed to strain against some sort of magical control.
"What is that?" Pudding breathed.
"I think it was a Kelpie," Lettuce answered and the other Mews looked at her in surprise. "I've been reading up on magical creatures since we saw the last one," she explained.
"What do you think they're trying to do to it?" Ichigo asked.
"Testing their magic on it, probably," Mint replied. "It doesn't seem to work, that's for sure."
"I guess it's time to show them what really does work," Pudding laughed and she took off down the hill, the others closely behind her.
Wormtail watched as the Death Eaters' magic bounced off the Chimera. These creatures were truly incredible. He had never felt so powerful before. The Death-Eaters apparated next to him, their magic ineffectual, and the kelpie turned to face them.
"Stop this thing," one of the Death Eaters snapped at him. "I'm tired of this." Wormtail seethed at the order, but dared not say anything even though he controlled the Chimera. As the Chimera strained against his magical control, Wormtail heard a hiss next to him and he looked up to see his fellow wizards pointing to the opposite hill. And there they were, the five girls from before, and they were heading straight for them. Wormtail pointed his wand at the girls and released his creature on them.
As the girls drew closer, the Chimera turned and charged at them. At the same time, the two cloaked men drew their wands and began to cast at the Mews. The silver handed man however disappeared with a loud crack.
"Mint, Pudding, stop them!" Ichigo called, dodging a green blast of light shot from the wand of one of the men. Pudding and Mint split from the other three, turning to the wizards.
"It feels weird fighting people," Pudding whispered as she leapt towards them. Mint simply shrugged as she fired an arrow at them, knocking one off of his feet as the other desperately tried to shoot the agile monkey Mew, who dodged him with ease.
The Kelpie charged at Zakuro, who leaped aside, rolling quickly to her feet as the monster turned to face her again. As the creature thundered towards her, Lettuce fired a blast of water at the large horse. Unfortunately, instead of hindering the beast in anyway, it actually seemed to help it and the Kelpie burst forward at incredible speed. The Chimera collided with the purple Mew, knocking her down before she could move. Ichigo raced to her friend's side, pulling Zakuro to her feet as the Kelpie once again turned on the girls.
"Lettuce, what's going on? Why didn't that work?" Ichigo yelled as she and Zakuro ran took off, the Chimera hot on their heels.
"Kelpies are water creatures! My attacks don't seem to work on it!" Lettuce exclaimed, watching helplessly as her friends ran, desperately trying to avoid the beast.
"How do we fight this thing?" Zakuro called, as she once more jumped aside, pulling Ichigo with her out of the Kelpie's path.
"You can only control a Kelpie by bridling it…I think," Lettuce answered.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I left my bridle in my other Mew outfit,"Ichigo snapped.
"Ichigo, distract it, I have a plan," Zakuro said, pushing the pink Mew towards the Chimera. Ichigo stumbled forward in alarm, directly into the Chimera's charging line. The Kelpie snorted in rage, its attention now drawn solely to Ichigo. Without hesitating, Zakuro launched herself into the air and over the beast, flicking her whip out and around the distracted Chimera's head and neck. Landing on its back, she tightened her hold, pulling the beast to a stop. The Kelpie furiously tossed its head, pawing at the ground and snorting angrily.
"Ichigo, now!" Zakuro shouted. Taking the opportunity, Ichigo fired at the now subdued Chimera and as she did, Zakuro released her hold and jumped clear. The Chimera shimmered and separated, leaving the Kelpie standing, the silver bridle Wormtail had put on it still around its now-hanging head. With angry snarls, the two Death Eaters, now cornered by the other two Mews (who had no desire to actually hurt humans and only intended to keep them busy), apparated away. Lettuce carefully approached the Kelpie and slipped the bridle off. The Kelpie shied away, breaking away from the Mews and running from them towards the hills.
"Well, that was…interesting," Mint murmured, glancing at the other Mews.
"Agreed," Ichigo sighed.
"Where do you keep going?"
Pudding looked up from her homework to see Euan standing in front of her.
"I'm sorry, what?" Pudding asked.
"You keep running off and disappearing. Why?"
"It's…complicated," Pudding murmured, looking back down at her work.
"I'm sure I can keep up," Euan frowned leaning forward. Pudding fidgeted uncomfortably in her seat, glancing around the room. Sighing, she turned back to Euan and smiled.
"It's a Japanese thing, hard to explain." And with that, she slipped her homework into her bag, jumped to her feet and skipped off up the stairs to her dormitory, leaving her friend standing there looking confused.
Mint stalked into the library, slamming her books down on the table next to Lettuce and Luna. The two Ravenclaw girls looked up at the dark-haired Mew.
"How was detention?" Luna asked, a vague smile on her face.
"That woman is a monster!" Mint exclaimed dramatically, collapsing into an empty seat.
"Why? What happened?" Lettuce asked in concern. Mint held out her hand. There, cut into the back of her hand, were the words, I shall learn respect. Lettuce gasped and Luna's eyes widened even further than normal.
"Apparently, the punishment for disagreeing with your toad of a teacher in this school is cutting words into your own hand," Mint snapped.
"That's barbaric!" Lettuce exclaimed, "They can't do that, can they?"
"It seems this woman can do whatever she wants," Luna murmured.
"It's ridiculous!" Mint exclaimed, "What if this leaves permanent scars? What kind of professional ballet dancer has words scarred on her…."
"You know this is a library, right?" someone behind Mint interrupted. Mint turned to see Blaise standing behind her.
"So?" she snapped.
"So, some of us would appreciate it if you kept the noise down. We're here to work, not chat."
"We're sorry, we didn't mean to bother you," Lettuce apologised.
"It's probably the Squallworms in your ears, making you hear things louder than they are," Luna announced. Three confused faces turned to stare at her, an awkward silence descending on the group. "They do that, you know?" she prompted.
"Blaise, just tell those Ravenclaws to keep quiet, you don't actually need to have a conversation with them," an unfortunate-looking Slytherin girl called from a few tables away.
"Ravenclaws aren't that bad, Millicent," Blaise smirked, winking at Lettuce. "Well not all of them…" he added, and with a sceptical look at Luna he turned and walked back towards his table.
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Ok, yeah it's kinda short and jumpy, but it's hard getting back into things. I was just trying to show some of their everyday life at Hogwarts and stuff at the end. I hope you still like this story x.
