After the Announcement
Kagome looked at Rin and Sesshoumaru as they walked together in the shade down the path that would lead them towards Miroku's house and the village beyond.
Rin was dressed in a lovely kosode of yellows and oranges, worked in a pattern of blooming flowers. Her sleeves moved gracefully as she moved her arms, and her black hair, worn long and low like a lady, and not pulled up like a peasant, glinted in the afternoon light where it peaked through the shade. From where she sat, Kagome could tell that even though Rin had her eyes down demurely, she was smiling.
"She looks so young," Kagome said. "But she will make a beautiful bride."
"Feh," InuYasha said as he moved beside his wife on the porch. He rested a claw-tipped hand on his wife's shoulder."She's older than you were when you beat Naraku, and I knew long before then you were the one I wanted to be with forever."
"True. I knew, too," she said, looking up at him, studying the wry smile on his face. "What's funny?"
"Oh, just remembering about the first time he saw me with you and besides trying to kill me, said something rude about us being together, and now look at him." InuYasha snorted. "Hell, I've known for years that Rin was the one. Wonder what took him so long to realize it."
"Maybe he just wanted to let her grow up and choose," Kagome said, patting his hand.
"Or maybe he was just scared of telling his mother," InuYasha said.
Kagome looked up at him, wide-eyed and surprised.
"Keh," he said. "Don't say anything until you meet her. She can be a real bitch."
Sesshoumaru turned around, briefly. Kagome could have sworn he nodded.
