Breaking Up

Wow this thing is sad! I don't know what got me in the mood to return to with something like this...hope you guys like it...

Blair dialed the numbers shakily on her phone, feeling her breath hitch as she pressed 'call'. She had to do this. It wasn't a choice anymore. The familiar ring sounded; once, twice, three times, then…

"H-Hello?" The deeper voice was shaky, hard as the other person tried, they couldn't hide it.

"Chuck…" Blair whispered, barely audible even to herself.

He knew what was coming. He'd known it for a long, long time.

"We don't have to do this, Blair…we can work past it…"

His voice was pleading, a tear slipping from the girl's eye and down her cheek as the words cut her heart.

"No, we can't…Chuck, we just can't. We've been…" She choked back a sob, "We've been avoiding this for weeks. College is a-almost over, I just…"

"Blair, we aren't through! We're Chuck and Blair, we've been together since high school ended..." His voice cracked at the end, and she knew that he was biting his lip hard at the end of the sentence.

"Chuck, it's…it's for the best…" The tears were falling freely now, her free hand clutching the sheets of the bed she was sitting on.

"No, how can it be! I…I love you, Blair…I haven't stopped since our senior year…"

"You…you couldn't have loved me better, C-Chuck…" She gasped out, and she could hear his heavy, staggered breathing on the other end.

"Then what else c-can I do? Blair, I…" He took a deep breath, "I need you. When…when I'm not with you, I just…I feel so lost…"

"I…I feel the same, but…Chuck we just can't d-do this anymore…all of the things we wanted, we just…this is meant to be…g-goodbye had to come…"

"Blair, I'm begging you…" Chuck pleaded, and she knew he hadn't cried like this since his father's death.

"It's going to be okay, Chuck…I-I wish I could promise that I could be there for you, but…I can't. This…we've reached the end…"

There was silence, except for Chuck trying to choke back the tears, and Blair biting her lip against the urge to sob.

Finally, he spoke, "I'll never stop…I'll never stop loving you, Blair…"

"I…I know, Chuck…but I want you to move on…promise me you will move on."

Another long pause…

"I…I promise…"

Another long pause, and then he broke it again.

"I guess this is…goodbye…"

"C-Chuck one last…" The sob actually came this time raking her chest, "I love you too…"

And that was it.
