Nate is c o l o r b l i n d.
It's a secret he kept fairly well,
Until one day after Mitchie happens,
She asks him what he thinks of the dress,
The one she's wearing to homecoming,
He tells her that she'd better tell Shane,
To wear a blue tie with his black shirt,
Except she tells him that,
The dress is green.
Nate is t o n e d e a f.
Not the way most people are,
When they can't sing or play the piano,
The only thing he can hear is the music in his ears,
Everything else falls flat somewhere,
In the airwaves along the way there,
When Caitlyn tells him she loves him,
He only hears empty words,
And she cries.
Nate is n u m b.
He's cold when it's hot outside,
When someone brushes their way past,
He just keeps on with whatever he's doing,
Not letting his surroundings hurt him,
It works well for him as a musician,
Then Tess starts falling hard for him,
No matter how she touches him,
He just can't feel it.
Nate is a l l e r g i c.
Just about everything everywhere,
Makes his eyes itch and his nose run,
Like the cologne Ella buys him for Christmas,
He honestly does like the smell of it,
But when he dabs it on his skin swells,
So he keeps the bottle plugged tight,
She thinks he doesn't like it,
And he realizes too late.
Nate can t a s t e.
He can taste rain in the air,
He just can't feel it on his skin,
He can't hear the sadness in Caitlyn's phone calls,
He can feel it sink into his tongue like smoke,
Maybe he couldn't see the love on Tess's face,
But he could taste it in her gloss on his lips,
He knows it's not enough though,
And he tastes the heartbreak.
