A Sudden Deviation

Dean stood in front of the display case eyeing the selection of impressively decorated sheet cakes, taking in the rainbow of frosting flowers and swirls, curls, and sprinkles. Normally a pie person, he was surprised by his sudden yearning for cake.

"You wanna get one?" Sam asked, having stealthily slipped next to him.

"Nah. No point. Besides, you see what they charge!"

"It's okay to want a cake on your birthday, Dean."

A curl of longing settled in his chest even as his cheeks pinkened. "It's an awful lot of cake."

"So? We'll have leftovers for breakfast in the morning."
