Deep in the Sickness

The bed sheet scratched and rubbed painfully over his highly sensitized skin as it was pulled up to his shoulders. He wanted to cry out, whimper, but he had no voice. He wanted to push it off, shove the offense away, but his arms were too weighted and heavy to obey his command.

It was hot. So hot. He felt like he was suffocating, choking. Lungs compromised by the insane heat. Was he back? Am I back? There? God, no! Absolute terror flooded his system. Help me! Sammy? Sam, please!

Sam held his hand, prayed, and reached for his phone.
