Disclaimer: I own nothing.
A/N: For the Setting/Era challenge. I chose the sinking of the Titanic... Short little thing; pairing is really obvious.
---
It was around one in the morning on April 15. People swarmed the deck of the RMS Titanic, desperate to get aboard lifeboats and flee the sinking ship as fast as they could. Among them stood two people, a man and a woman, fighting each other and themselves.
"Go," he said point-blank to her. "Get on one of the lifeboats. Please, Dora, do it."
The woman glared at her husband, spent a second debating what was to be said, and then decided that the truth was the best answer. "I'm not going," she said bravely, taking a deep breath.
"Please," he pleaded. "Our son needs you."
"But I need you!" she said desperately. "I'm not leaving you. I don't care what you say - if you're going to die on this Godforsaken ship, so will I!"
He couldn't fight her any longer. If that was what she wanted... well, he wasn't going to be able to stop her, and he wasn't going to try. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close in the cold night air. "I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too," she whispered back.
They were still holding on to each other when the ship finally sank, ninety minutes later.
