No idea where this came from but.. I like it. Short and kinda sad. Alex makes a promise to Izzie.

"Alex?" her breathing is slow, and labored. She sounds like she's hurting, and so you hold onto her hand tighter than before. Shepard found the tumor earlier that day, and he told you that it probably wasn't coming out this time.

And you know. You love her, it's actually ridiculous how much you love her, but you know this is it. Soon, she'll be gone.

"Alex?" she says again, gently.

"Yeah?" you're trying not to let her know, how scared you are, how this is so much worse than everything else, makes everything else seem to stupid.

"Can you.. can you promise me something?"

You've felt it coming for a while. You nod. "What is it, Iz?"

"You know I'm going to die."

You shake your head, because if you say it out loud it becomes real. "No. I don't know that. Nobody knows that, Iz."

"You do. I do, and Derek.. everyone does."

"I'll promise whatever you want, as long as you promise to fight for every goddamn thing you're worth. Fight for me and Meredith and George and.. everyone."

She shudders. "Alex," her eyes are full with tears. "I am fighting."

"I know," you grab her face. "I know. But you've gotta keep fighting. You can't give up."

"I've been fighting, Alex. I will fight but it's.. it's not good, okay. And it's.. it's wedding day and I just.. I need you to know this now, alright?" Pause. "Alright?"

"Alright."

"I.. I want you to move on, okay? I want you to find somebody you love, somebody that loves you back, as much as I do, if that's possible. Someone you can laugh with, and fight over stupid things with, someone that will make you happy," she bites her lip, and chokes back a sob. "But I need you to promise me something else, okay? More than that, more than moving on." her hands shake, and you hold on as tight as you can to both of them.

Your foreheads are touching, your noses squished lightly together.

"Please," her lips tremble, "please don't forget me."
